Trump is attempting to recreate a modern version of traditional empires where you control all of the points in a supply chain and all of the ports and key channels for their transport. He intends to annex/control Greenland and Canada for the resources (rare minerals and energy, including uranium, potash) and to retake the Panama Canal. He will intimidate Mexico as part of this. Ideally he will want to annex Mexico as well, but that would be for later.

President Trump imposed tariffs on Canada, Mexico, and China to curb illegal immigration, combat drug trafficking, address trade imbalances, and protect domestic industries. Canada agreed to spend 2% of its GDP on defense in 2014 but spent only 1.37% as of 2024, resulting in arrears of approximately $27.8 billion USD. Trudeau also agreed to tighten the border 4 years ago and didn't follow through. - **Mexico**: Exports to the US account for approximately 73% of Mexico's GDP. - **Canada**: Exports to the US make up about 77% of Canada's GDP. Exports to Mexico and Canada combined make up about 3.4% of the US GDP: - **Exports to Mexico**: Approximately 1.6% of the US GDP. - **Exports to Canada**: Approximately 1.8% of the US GDP. Resistance is futile. Pay your fair share for NATO & Tighten your borders problem solved. That seems reasonable.

Our borders are not a problem. 14kg of fentanyl was seized, which is nothing. Fentanyl going to both the US and Canada comes from China. It is dropped into the ocean along the California coast and picked up by fishing boats. Cocaine is smuggled to Canada from Mexico, along with illegal weapons across the land border from the US. Why doesn’t “tightening the border” apply to the US then???

It’s funny to note that Trump actually united Canadians and made us more patriotic! 🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦 His policies may have been aimed elsewhere, but they ended up strengthening our national identity and sense of unity. So, should we thank him? Well, since we usually do… 😆 Dear DJT, “You didn’t mean to, but you actually made us stronger!” 😂 🇨🇦

Pretty sure that's the goal. Trump wants Canada to become more Right-wing. Becoming more nationalistic and protectionist benefits the US more in the long term.

Potash is a key component in 95% of commercial fertilizer. US agriculture gets 90% of their potash from Canada. Reducing that supply would have a significant impact on domestic food production in America. Canada has the ability to hit back hard.

@@robertfigueroa5697 They will. But probably not in the way you think. And Canada has the on/off switch for the electricity, not the US. Electricity comes the the water barrages on the St-Lawrence river. Then they go through electric poles all the way to the US. The US should be careful. Canada has always selled them energy at a discount. Fun fact. The Trump tower is powered by Hydroquebec. The biggest producer of clean power on the continent. Its a french Canadian company. Just saying. But you probably knew that.

Many ways prices get adjusted for tariffs. We shouldn't expect a clean 25% cost increase in what we pay. Tariffs are on wholesale values coming across the border not retail and there is usually a nice spread between the two. In a line of machinery I know the dealer got 45 percent off list from Europe and that included duty, a famous Swiss luxury watch brand I got 40 percent off because a family friend was an authorized dealer. If you buy enough Boeing jets you can get 40% off list [rices. Then there are currency exchange rates that can make prices change.
