My God! You just hit on something I hadn't considered. Will Trump physically be able to control himself for hours at a time in a courtroom? We know he has the attention span of a gnat, and the manners of a boar, but I don't think he's ever been forced to sit in one place, and be quiet, and respectful, and do what he's told, for hours and weeks on end. He won't be allowed to have his phone in court, so no distractions, just him, sitting there, unable to respond. That's probably why he hasn't shown up for any of his other trials, he is incapable of handling himself in this environment, and will have no ability to control anything there.

You're right and you've hit the nail on the head; we can podcast and dance around it all day (believe me, I enjoy it because I too want to live in an alternate reality) but the truth is, it's probably gone already. To these guys' point, if they play this hand they'll find that not enough people will enforce the law, and will likely only serve to accelerate what--in my view--may be the inevitable (that we are instead just delaying). I read a comment from someone a while ago that stuck with me--that when you have a system as large as ours, it can be dead and still take a while to fall over..

I agree that if only one blue state followed it that would be a bad look, but I thought giving up without even fighting was a Democratic specialty. Maybe that's a sign that you've truly completed your transformation, idk. Referring to following the Constitution as a "deus ex machina" is also very weird. Game it out and make the case, don't throw up your hands and call it a "cheat code;" if anything in our system could legit be called a cheat code it's the Electoral College. I totally get why you're wary of the idea of waiting for the one trick to come down and save us from Trump, but that's the wrong framing in my view. Invoking 14:3 would not be easy, it would not be a shortcut, it would be difficult and require a great deal of fighting over an old rule and it would likely provoke confrontations with the (actually small) minority in this country that would be willing to start physical violence if they don't get their way. It would also not be the first time it was necessary in our history.

And he also has the semi-legitimate argument that he is likely to be nominated for president. The leniency he is getting is because people are weighing those factors. He absolutely will instigate more violence before this is all over. And the Republican electorate and establishment will absolutely cry foul, whatever happens. Action or inaction, Trump has made this a dangerous game regardless. And it is extraordinarily dangerous for him as well.

In all of Sarah’s focus group work, I truly want to KNOW, of this “precious base” how many of them can demonstrate that they’ve been politically active/even voted PRIOR to DJT? I’m keenly curious. AND, what/how will these Always-DJT voters, react when/if the House in fact shuts down the Federal Gov, indefinitely, & this “base” no longer has access to their monthly checks for whatever, nor full access to svcs they rely on, & further, as Vets compose approx 57% of the Federal Government workers-who will be on furlough… IMO, these are early days for definitive “polls” or focus groups findings. BTW, Tiny D HAS already declared FL has no need of further Federal assistance; ironically immediately following FEMA’s deployment. Agreed: it’s a total shi/-show. I must respectfully disagree around your reasoning for not applying the 14th Amendment insurrection clause. Choosing to avoid or choosing to enforce the Constitution because of optics & the fear of appearing politicized is what plays into the perceptions that the law is political. If you have the evidence that backs up the prosecution of the crime or the removal of a politicial candidate, that is sufficient. Should it have come to this point? No! But here we are. And threats of violence deterring us makes us subject to further threats of violence - it does not make them stop if we cater to them.
