THIS!!! JD is absolutely the product of growing up in an unstable environment, and when he went to live with his grandparents, that was just as bad because it was a toxic and abusive relationship. I suspect that he is terrified by emotions, because as a child having emotions in that type of environment feel dangerous. Like many adults who grew up in instant unstable homes and or emotional neglect he suppresses his emotions. They come out as anger, which combined with his unstable sense of self, he is projecting on others. JD , like Trump, are dangerous. The majority of people with mental health conditions are not dangerous and are more likely to be the victims of violence. But they both are examples of having deep psychological trauma from a very, very early age.

That experience doesn’t guarantee he’s going to become abusive, but it is the foundation for lifelong psychological difficulties. Many adults survivors of childhood trauma direct their anger inward, he’s directing his anger outwards and projecting his issues on others. I personally detest when people use their trauma as an excuse for their behaviour. It’s never an excuse. It might be part of the explanation, but ultimately the individual is always responsible for their behaviour.

I wholeheartedly agree with this discussion! I am a Canadian veteran with both physical disabilities and PTSD from service. Despite all the challenges I have had with hip surgeries and shoulder surgeries and multiple muscularskeletal and systemic issues, the hardest thing I ever did was to admit that I was struggling with my mental health. I am now very open about it and an advocate for veterans mental health and support, but I wasn’t always comfortable with my admitting I needed help. Some of the strongest people I know, including SOF colleagues were the most supportive. So eff JD Vance. He is a weak spineless, shape shifting weasel, who knows nothing about courage and strength. Edited to add, one of the things that lead me to become more outspoken and an advocate for mental health was after a well liked Lieutenant Colonel took his own life. Having had my own dark thoughts at times, and watching the shock ripple through the officer core, it occurred to me that we might be encouraging our troops to seek help, but we weren’t admitting it amongst ourselves.
