I woke up, not surprised, not worried, not truly scared, but just hopeless for tomorrow. Everyone puts themselves today ahead of everyone tomorrow. And it's disgusting. And the worst part is they don't recognize how they aren't helping themselves today. We live in a world where people think it's okay to live for themselves. Where they think only they matter. Where they only let greed and power run their lives. As I said I woke up with a lack of hope. But ultimately I know that there is still hope. There is still room to fix the world. There is still room to fight for freedoms. There is still room to criticize the powerful. And remember. In a year when people realize their mistakes they will also fight alongside us. Just yesterday, as part of her homeschool assignment, my daughter researched the most democratic countries in the world. The U.S. was 36th on the list, while England was 17th. She then said to me, “It’s ironic that we fought a war with the British in order to become a democracy, only to rapidly become less democratic and more fascistic than the very country we rebelled against. It also seems like we just traded a monarchy for an oligarchy… which is kinda like trading a wolf for a wolf pack.” People love to criticize homeschooling, but my kid is more educated than most adults.

In every election, up to 2016, my brother-in-law always said "I don't care who wins, as long as I get mine". This is a guy who saved a lot of money from his engineering job, and retired at the age of 49 with $3 million in assets (he had a PE license in the state of California, which is one of the most difficult licenses to acquire). He was going to vote for Trump in '16, BUT, what made him shift his outlook was when Katie Johnson's 1994 allegations came on the horizon. He could not, and would not support an individual who even _might_ have committed those alleged acts. Even though the charges were dropped at the last minute ... if Trump has legally gone after more than 2000 individuals and companies over everything from shoddy workmanship, to defamation ... WHY did he not pursue defamation charges against "Katie"? And later, why did he refuse to provide DNA samples in the E.J. Carroll case, which would almost certainly have exonerated him? Back to my brother-in-law ... despite what he saw as being a benefit to himself, he could not morally pull the lever for a candidate like Trump, and voted against him in all three General Elections. What has 2024 proven? More than half of the US electorate have zero moral compass. And sure, they'll rant about accusations of similar crimes committed by the undocumented - but when it comes to Trump ... crickets ... total cognitive dissonance _"as long as I get mine"_

It doesnt work, because of the nature of capitalism as you stop spending your other outgoings would increase to fill the gap. Its one of the reason most people are stuck with the same level standard of living for their entire lives. eg bread goes up....milk goes down....and then on a bigger scale food goes down so insurance or fuel or energy will go up to fill that space. So....when you stop spending profits in retail go down leading to lower savings interest rates, shops close leading to higher unemployment meaning benefits increase means taxes rise...............its a game you cant win.

Better than that, a couple of days ago Elon tweeted that he plans to "reset" the US economy, and even admitted that it will be very hard for most people. Economists are predicting that the Trump economy, if enacted the way he wants, would lead to a second Great Depression. The American economy is about to be totally pillaged, but they deserve it because they voted for it. Any foreign investor who has any wealth in the US should be planning to move it out asap. Nothing is safe there.

I do agree that the EU isn't great, but it's better to be part of it (especially in a position of unparalleled power within it) than outside it. Yes, it needs reforms. So naturally, we as a country stood up and fought for those reforms using our diplomatic connections, making the change we wanted to see in the world. Or made an alternative to the EU countries could join that has better terms. To those not from america wondering about the gas price being an issue let me clear this up. It is actually not an issue. The real issue is media like Fox News and republicans wishing the problem into existence. Trump will say things that start like this “people are saying…” but nobody is actually saying anything until after trump says people are saying that thing. Gas prices went up like they’ve gone up before but the prices they cite aren’t averages they are prices from California and other states are that are well above the national average. Same with groceries. We didn’t have 7 dollar eggs or bread or milk. I can find them for about 2 dollars at Walmart or Kroger and on sale they can be as little as 1.00 to 1.50 per dozen. They are citing the price for pasture raised no hormone no antibiotic eggs that have always been around 7 bucks a dozen. Even CNN and NBC repeat these things because once trump or any Republican starts saying it’s a problem then their base and the whole right wing media apparatus will make it into a problem. It’s just Astro turf.
