This is a 30 minute overview of the trumpet teaching and brass playing concepts of Claude Gordon. Jeff Purtle summarizes the main ideas and gives a brief overview of the how to practice and what to practice to apply these concepts.
Things discussed include: 1. Wind Power; 2. The Tongue; 3. Wind Control; 4. Fingers of The Right Hand; 5. The Left Hand; 6. Facial Muscles; and 7. The Lips. Some controversial things are mentioned such as: 1. The Diaphragmatic Breathing Fallacy, 2. Why NOT to buzz the mouthpiece, lips, or lead pipe, 3. Why correct technique enables a good sound vs only focusing on sound and hoping technique will fix itself, 4. The value of frequent brief rests, 5. How everyone's tongue moves to control pitch, and more.

Mr. Jeff just want to thank you for revealing all these priceless secrets. Have listened and read and reread your content from your website and every time find something new. The audio files you uploaded I mean the ones from Brass Camps that were made decades ago are super helpful too. Probably for some professional brass players these are obvious things or something like this but for most of us who just learn how to play this knowledge is absolutely fantastic. Thank you so much.

Thanks again for your kind words. I’m currently working on my 2012 brass conference videos and there is some unique info there too. After all that is done I will redesign my site to Be more visual in the navigation. If you happen to be going to the 2023 International Trumpet Guild Conference in Minneapolis, Minnesota then look for me there. I will have a booth and my purpose is to hopefully get more people aware of the significance of these great ideas and way of practicing. I don’t want this to be forgotten because it can help anyone.

I needed this video 25 years ago. (It would be nice if the volume were louder.)

Thanks so much for putting this together Jeff. I learned from CG books on how to play and now I'm playing as I always wanted to, not to mention that I was able to change the placement of mouthpiece from right to the center and enjoying playing and seeing and hearing myself the way I wanted to...to my surprise many in US are not familiar with CG method. I wish I'd knew him or his method when I started to play the trumpet back in Russia many years ago... Thank you again for continuing spreading this invaluable information for those who really want to play...

Jeff, was the "speed" of the air measured, ANYWHERE, in the Mills MRI experiment.? How do you conclude that the air , inside the oral space, was flowing "faster" ? Can you direct me to those measurement results?
