NAH CUS I’VE HAD INSTRUCTORS TELL ME TO PLAY STACCATO MORE CONNECTED BEFORE
@eastonarnett2050
@eastonarnett2050 5 ай бұрын
@@treesquirrel3995 That can be useful advice. Generally staccato notes do not have to be "disconnected". Instead they are connected by one constant flow of air, just stopped by the tongue. They could be disconnected, or they could be connected by air, in which case, you should avoid articulating by stopping your breath and starting it again for the next note unless you really need to take a breath there.

Tbh tho the staccato making is a legit question depending on speed and era of the piece, like in beethovan sonate op.17 on horn the 2nd movement theyre treated more like a shape for the sound to follow than abrupt separations

Staccatos can be played in very different ways, especially in classical music. It depends on what style you are playing and the composers intention. You can play them super short, or more connected in the context of a phrase. Not as dumb as it sounds. Staccato doesn’t mean short, it means separated.
@Ambarrabma
@Ambarrabma 2 ай бұрын
that’s what they said. They asked if they wanted them more connected or more separated. Which is obviously a stupid question.

As a Percussionist, it hurts my *own back* looking at half the trumpet section sitting in the most uncomfortable and awkward position...and it doesn't help that I'm standing right behind them. The only thing that's keeping me from commiting a crime is the snare/cymbal/mallet instrument and music stand in between me...and their chair
