Great Video, thanks! One thing that has always stuck with me is that Maynard Ferguson once answered the same question with "If you want to exand your range, play higher than you usually do more often". I found this tip helped me a lot in getting to a Double C, which I currently don't have but plan to work up to reaching again.

Good simple tips and I particularly like the honesty that it takes time, there aren't any tricks or mystic shortcuts that beat practice.

Just a note here you might like. I noticed you used your fingers for showing your air stream. If you wish to have an inexpensive visualizer, get a 17mm chrome plated boxed in wrench. It make an excellent visualizer to use for seeing your embouchure.

Do you think it's about airspeed or air pressure? For me beyond a certain point increased speed just increases the volume, but when I compress the air using diaphragm, tongue level, cheeks and embochure (which gets smaller) synchronised in unison I can access the range above high C. That increases the pressure of the air as well as the speed and activates the chops at a higher frequency. Have to be careful re making the aperture too small though, else the sound gets too small as well.

Exactly! I was taught to keep the aperture basically the same through the range. Interesting points! Thanks.

It's about the adequate combination of air speed and air flow (air amount per unit of time). High tones need low air flow at a higher speed. If you don't restrict air flow as required, you will just increase loudness when blowing harder. Thus, air speed will be rised, but it won't play high tones. The key for the upper register is a strong embouchure, so required air flow restriction is achieved. Usually it is easier to blow hard (abdominal muscles) than to restrict air flow (lip muscles). Air pressure parameter just makes sense when you consider pressure inside the mouth. Air outside the mouth just gets into an open pipe, not a ballon which would compress the air within it. It is quite obvious that air pressure inside the mouth directly increases with pitch and loudness.
