This is the first model ive bought in 0ver 50 years, your vids are going to be invaluable. The kit is just awesome, hope I can do it justice..

Stumbled across this and throughly enjoyed it, I use to be a prolific model maker many years ago but haven't built a kit in over 20 yrs! This video has reawakened that passion especially seeing those amazing metal effect paints. I suppose there's been so much innovations in this field that I've missed out on. You've got me very tempted to get back into this great hobby again. Great video.

I'm trying to identify the music that's used in this Part 1 video around the 43:50 mark. If anyone could tell me what it is (song title and artist), it will save a lot of sleepless nights. This is a great series!

I can tell you exactly what that piece of music is: it's called "Kokoarrah Dusk", from the album "Kokoarrah" by dogsounds. I know because that's me, and I wrote it lol. The whole album is in the public domain and you can download it (and some other tracks) for free here: drive.google.com/drive/folders/1CfW3Njysx0-inimTVHTcF6Ww_N0QgpF7?usp=sharing

I am so pleased not only to know the name and composer of that gorgeous piece of music but also because I’d like to use it in a family wedding video, and your declaration that it is in the public domain has made me feel even more elated. If this is the standard, can’t wait to check out the rest of the album@@gurufoxx

Fantastic kit Started on mine at Christmas and it is going together well so far Just a little warning for anyone building this. When I got home from the model shop with Tamiya paints I found several colours are listed incorrectly. The week after I took the plan in and chose paints that compared to the front cover of the plan. I cannot say if these are the correct colours to use but they are as close as they make to those shown eg. where it shows XF14 I am using the XF19. I see you intend to use a lighter almost white grey Ted

I know it's a couple of years late, but maybe someone will read this hint and help them. Watching the fitting of the torpedo halves, I found that sanding the mating surfaces on sandpaper mounted on a glass plate will ensure a nice flat surface that mates beautifully and allows capillary action for glue well. Wait 30 seconds and give a slight squeeze to raise a bit of softened glue at the joint then let dry. Simply sand that excess off and there's no seam!

When I first saw this build on a list of suggested videos to watch, I thought, cool, a Submarine build in the monster 1/48 scale. I watched to the end of part one even though its a bit ponderous, for me sorry spending a bit too much time on assemblies like the torpedo for example. The real interest will be the Hull and Tower and all the fiddly wee bits that make up the, super detail that completes the model. More power to you though, taking on a big scale where,1/72 is about as big as I can handle and more typically 1/144 suits me best when building model Submarines. As you've bought to build a Trumpeter kit, I'm keen to see how this brand fits together and in preparation to building a Gato Class boat from 1941 also, Trumpeter but, 1/144. I can see that if I push the Subscribe button, there will be much that I can learn from you. Looking forward to Part 2 of this Submarine build. See you next time🙂

The clockwork mechanism on the front of the torpedo as you put it was actually a safety feature it had to turn the certain amount of times before the charge and detonator will be armed this way if there was a malfunctioning insided the torpedo it wouldn't detonate as soon as it left the U boat

@TheWuerstchenwasser7 жыл бұрын
they coated them with extra grease to make sure there wouldnt be any torpedo fuel leaks even if the torpeds take minor damage from shocks etc. making sure they cant leak was important because the fuel used in these aswell as russian torpedos could explode when leaking onto rust/corroded areas for example the torpedo tubes that are likely to suffer from corrosion due to their contact with sea water
@andrewcullen86357 жыл бұрын
To be honest if I was cutting something like the torpedo props I would have removed them then trimmed with a pair of nail clippers. I have a set of 2 to get different curves/flats. Hot bunking depended of there being at least 2 shifts so they only needed half the number of bunks and most of them folded up when not in use

Hi Ted. Enjoying your build already.. i have this and am waiting to see what hurdles you hit before getting stuck in. RE your new camera and sound:- It seems as though the contrast is too high? The colours come through beautifully but the clarity is poor even though my screen says its in 1080? At the 41 min point the clarity from the side angle is awesome. Perhaps its just the focus is out? As has already been mentioned, the sound is a little on the boomy side?

Yes, you should always remove paint from the surfaces that are to be glued together - the glues need to access the plastic to melt it together.

I'm not an expert, but watching this build 187 mins in, I thought would it not make more sense to paint the brass propellers first and the tail fins before gluing them onto the then glued and sanded and filled torpedo body? All it may then need is some paint removal on the mating surface and touch up... Don't know , I'm no expert in this.
@Trommelbohne7 жыл бұрын
Hi, judging by the tail-fins of the torpedo and the type of U-Boat (VII C) this is most likely a G7a Torpedo. Those were equipped with combined magnetic and impact detonators. The magnetic pistol in particular was prone to malfunction in the early years of WWII due to problems in mass production, contributing in no small part to the so called torpedo crisis. More Info here: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/G7a_torpedo Great build so far, looking forward to your upcoming vids in this series. :) Best regards Nicolas (who incidentally can see U-997 in Laboe, when looking out the window :D )
