I loved these interior sub models as a kid. Unfortunately as a kid I didn't have the skill to do them well. It's very satisfying seeing the incredible work you've done on this.

fascinating to see how different modellers approach problems . I haven't bought this kit , as I may not live long enough to build it! Very complex, and attention to detail pays dividends . Lighting is crucial . Clear bodies are notoriously awkward to fit and secure without damaging the overall effect with glue going everywhere! Well done .

You do a great job building this model ! The only thing I missed in your videos is how you cut out the holes in the hull. I am building this nearly perfect model, too and right now I am standig at the decision how to open those holes. I really like to watch you build this model and I also made a journey to LABOE near KIEL (Germany) where the last Type VII/c submarine (U-995) can be visited as a museum. Go on with your very helpful videos !!!
@skipperted6 жыл бұрын
Dirk Simons I decided not to cut the holes in the end but to paint the clear hull and leave parts of it clear so you can see inside That’s going to be shown in the next video

Subs use red lights at night. Then only in the operation compartments. They run white lights in the engine room & torpedo rooms. Super model. Love those interior compartments. So much fun in each section. Good job. Red keeps eyes accustom to peering into darkness at periscope depth. Or running on the surface.

Based almost entirely on watching your build videos, I had to go out and find this kit for myself. Lucky there was one at a local shop and it's now sitting in my dining room, waiting for me to get started. I hope I can do it half the justice you've managed.

We're sure you 'll do just fine, remember to post up pics to our website gallery when you have finished! Also, you do know we are a retailer, and we have that in stock..? Could have saved yourself a trip to the shops ^_^ www.emodels.co.uk/trumpeter-1-48-dkm-u-boat-type-viic-u-552-wwii-06801.html

@@emodelsuk Your online shop was the first place I looked, but as I'm in Canada I don't think I could have sat still waiting for it to get here. :) There's also the issue that we never know if border services is going to hold it hostage for duties and taxes or just let it straight through for delivery (had it go both ways in the past). I'll be sure and post photos once I get going on the build.

Would love to hear a 'lessons learned' on this. My kit is on the shelf. Considering ditching the clear plastic altogether, and go the cutout rout. Shame that Trumpeter screwed the pooch by putting the clear on the wrong side of the conning tower. That had to have been an error. Would love to hear the real story there.

The main complaint I have with this kit, and it's not a minor one, is that the cutaway on the conning tower is on the opposite side. That doesn't allow to showcase a solid port side unless you just sacrifice the port cutaway and paint over the clear side panel . Don't know what they were thinking, but that was a bad move. At least give us an option
