TRUMPETER TYPE VIIc 1/48 UBOAT.

This is the completed model after many delays and considerable indecision. The final result is seen as a typical type VIIC, as the representation of U-552 was deemed too inaccurate. I admit to a lot of procrastination over the look I wanted to achieve and only ended up thinking I should have achieved better results. It turned out OK but I had got to the point where I lost interest so just wanted it finished. This is a good kit built straight from the box, but you can now purchase a staggering amount of RESIN, PE and upgrades enough to produce a museum quality model if you have the money, skill and patience. I don't have either. There are many examples of this build on the net for comparison on finish and technique and all represent the individuality of the modeler and what they want to achieve. I found them all very helpful. I spent too long on this kit and lost my way with too many breaks so i lost the flow of a progressive build. All i can add is do your research and study other builds in order to get in your own mind the result you want. It makes for an impressive model though purists feel it is lacking in accuracy and detail. There is nothing else on the market to compare it with in this scale so i can recommend it if you have the room. most impressive.

Good effort mate it is certainly a difficult kit to keep going with... mine I have have since its release and still ongoing partly because of the mentioned aftermarket pe, lighting/sound card and scratch building.. hoping to finish when have more free time.. it certainly is a talking point..

I think it turned out great! Cutting out all those holes... what an effort. I also appreciate you didn't overdo the weathering/aging, it looks more like it probably looked back in the day. Other channels tend to go a little crazy on the rust for my liking. If there is one thing I don't like, it's the milky transparent parts, but that's Trumpeter's fault.

Appreciate your thoughts. Doing it again i would do some things differently. My understanding is the kit is not an accurate representation of U-552, so decided to complete as a typical type VIIC. I was tempted to cut out the transparent side but my skill level was not up to it. The clear half protects the interior but limits the view. Some just leave off the clear half. Weathering is a personal choice, some boats looked very weathered while some looked very clean, so chose the middle road. Again, research will decide how you wish to portray your model. cheers.

I am confused. You gave a lengthy explanation about issues and your skill set and yet the video goes to the boat you have built and there is absolutely nothing wrong with it!!!!! 😂😂You have achieved a great result!!! What's more you saw it through whereas I have ditched kits as I am no longer in the head space or no longer have an interest. Reply much appreciated. I suppose I was disappointed with the final result in that I could have made more of an effort, but i ran out of patience. It still presents OK, and as a whole, I like the build. For me , its more a matter of what could have been. I finished it and was more pleased that i did rather than give up, due to the time taken.
