It needs to abolished because its completely unsustainable and is crushing young people. Personally, refund everyone what they have paid into it, and shut it down. For less than 1/3rd the cost, we can give all HS graduates 100,000 dollars on graduation day. Teach kids to properly utilize and manage money, coach them on different things based on their life plans. A student that wants to be a lawyer, can rent an apartment with roommates, get a part time job, and a decent used car, and pay for law school without crazy loans. A student wanting to go into vehicle mechanics can pay for trade school, buy a nice set of tools and a small shop, and start their own business. Someone who just wants to work in a restaurant can start work, put a downpayment on a condo or house and put the rest into gold or reliable stocks and by the time they are 65 have millions to retire on. And again, this is all for the cost of a decent financial education being restored in our schools, and replacing the pyramid scheme of SS for a program that is 1/3rd of the cost. If you get that money, blow it all, don't have a family, and dont have a retirement, then you shouldn't get assistance.

If you've ever watched Caleb Hammer videos, you know exactly how true that is. Anyway, here is a numbers break down: The average American contributes about $210K @12.4% (6.2% employee and 6.2% employer) of their income to social security. This is about $390/month over 45 years. At a 5% rate of return we should have $794K in our individual trust accounts. If we drew only the 5% interest off that principle $39,700 per year or $3,308 per month. We'd still have the principle. The issue is that politicians have stolen "borrowed" over $2.7 trillion from our trust accounts.
