I was always taught with larger gauge wiring (while doing car audio at least) to put the ring terminal in a vise, heat it up, fill it full of solder and then wiggle your wire into the terminal. Makes a bomb proof connection. Can't wait to hear this Subibeast fire up! 🔥

I used to wire cop car lights for a place called systems for public safety in Tacoma, a rule of thumb we were taught with 6 gauge wire and below is to put solder to fill in the gaps on the ring terminal connections and any other connection between the wires so you wouldn’t lose voltage as you get farther from the battery.

One more thing I wanted to mention about my build which is only partially applicable to a race/performance car. I am mounting my battery in the spare tire well as far forward as possible. Now my car is mainly a street car so I got a larger battery than stock for a couple of reasons, a) more power capacity, b) a few more lbs in the back is not bad for balance of a nose heavy car, ideally you want the weight to be as low as possible and as close to the CG of the vehicle, it won't make a lick of difference in a street car but what the heck why not. And c) I am using a 34/78 dual terminal battery meaning I have two options for connecting my battery, one terminal can be the engine/chassis power and the second positive terminal is reserved for the audio system meaning I don't have to kill all the power to the car if I want to remove the amplifier rack for a track day. I am using a steel frame to secure the battery, and will have fiberglass/carbon panels to mount everything too (circuit breaker, fuse panel, etc.). The frame will bolt to the spare tire tub via some mounting tabs and will also serve as a ground for the battery/audio.

I used Bluesea systems components for my circuit breaker and fuse panel. I made a mounting panel to hold the remote jump start terminals in the engine bay. I have a secondary fuse panel in the rear of the car for the fuel pump relay, also bluesea systems bits. For the terminals I purchased a hydraulic crimper on Amazon, it was not too expensive and is handy to have around. Send me a message and I can send you my Instagram profile name so you can see what I'm talking about. BTW, I 'm the guy that used to work on the Predator UAV program, I also used to be a Porsche dealership technician, and I fixed communications systems in the military, so electrical systems is kind of my jam. Does that circuit breaker say 300 amps?
@Smeedia3 жыл бұрын
Yes, might be a little too high 😅
@fraserlordly24323 жыл бұрын
Actually I was thinking about how you did this. I think you should run a dedicated ground from the battery to the engine bay, like you did for the positive. I don't know how well the starter will be able to work from a chassis ground. That's a lot of amperage to go through the chassis when starting the car. I don't know how many amps the starter draws on a cold start, but if it's more than 300 amps, you're going to pop the breaker every time. Is it not a 650cca battery? That's why I will never move my battery to the trunk. Except your case is an exception. I'd definitely look into how much your starter draws while starting.
@Smeedia3 жыл бұрын
Have a note on my whiteboard to look into this more, I can easily add a ground from the battery to the engine and may not be a bad idea to do so.

Ngk bkr7eix 2667 spark plug is easier to source and i think is slightly better made... And comes pre-gapped 0.8mm perfectly for turbo application (for over 20psi boost u might want to reduce the gap to 0.7mm maybe)

Also for your wiring loom under the wheel arch frame, its is better for you to relocate its routing slightly up above the frame rail metal lip... This will give u slightly better clearance for your drag radials... Also it served a purpose to keep the wire away from any rubbing risk wih the tyre at full suspension compression... Away from danger...

Looked at trying to get it above the rail but there was no way to get thrbloom high enough on there, I'll see if I can't get it up a bit higher though

@@Smeedia im not sure on your sti.. but atleast on my forester there is some slack (about 1-2") to allow the improved loom routing... And then secured with some heavy duty ziptie to the side of the arch rail (frame)

Looking at it now, I may be able to get it over the lip on thr frame rail

@@Smeedia hopefully it can be done without much hassle... Another peace of mind knowing the wire wont be rubbing even during the worst wheel hop down the race launches 🤘

Your multimeter is reading wrong because you should be on DC Volts. Select the 20 Volt reading right under the HOLD button in the top left corner. You should get a proper reading then.

I spent about 15 min talking to Amazon about delayed deliveries and I ended with asking for a refund for prime for a month.
