Whoa, I don't know what to say. Thank you so much for the kind words, you made my whole day. And while I"ve been making videos since... 2007ish, I've only been publishing on this channel regularly for a year or so. As long as there are awesome people like you, we'll grow to the point that I can devote even MORE time to it, and then it will grow MORE, etc. Thank you for being awesome. :)

Good video Shawn. Lots of dry stuff to wade through. Raid systems and compiling from source could make a good practical video for new users. Thank you for your hard work. Stay well, stay safe.

Thanks Scott! Yeah... this one felt like a LOT of just, "stuff to know" without a ton of practical demos. Thus my pigs-in-space sorta stuff to try injecting even a tiny bit of fun, lol.

Thanks for the videos. I'd love to learn more about using LVM if you ever do a video on that. Despite my many years with Linux, I've avoided using it, even though some distros want you to use it out of the box. Another one (which would probably be a whole series of advanced videos) would be Ceph. I've given that some effort in the past and it looks really promising since it's like RAID across servers instead of disks.
@shawnp0wers2 жыл бұрын
I think we will cover LVM later in the series. I often don't use it either, because it adds a layer of complexity that isn't worth it for me. (I'm never going to add another drive to my laptop, so setting up LVM is just... a bit much, at least it seems so for me) I actually just installed a Ceph cluster with Proxmox at my mini datacenter. It's pretty slick! I'll have to cover it someday.

I am enjoying your way of teaching, I only need to consolidate this all with actual hands-on. Any study tips for Linx+/Lpic-1?
@shawnp0wers2 жыл бұрын
Thanks again, Damian! -- my biggest tip for preparing for any of the cert test is to set up virtual machines, and do all the things covered in the objectives. Even if it seems silly to type the commands when you just saw them typed in a video, there's something about repeating the process that helps it stick. Also -- when you have a VM to play with, you can try other things, like, "I wonder what other things this command can do" -- then try to do other stuff using the tools. If you break your VM, try to fix it. If it's too far gone, revert to a snapshot. Anyway, that's the way I learn -- by doing. :)

@@damianpodgorski6977 Perfect! And heck, depending on it's specs, you might be able to run a virtual machine on it, maybe something like ubuntu server without the GUI. (but perhaps not, still, I'd probably try, LOL!) Truth be told, someday I'd like to figure out a way to host virtual labs people can control in a web browser. I'm not there yet, but perhaps someday. :)
