I am halfway to a civil engineering degree but I took some time off to do other jobs. When I went to engineering school at the University of Utah we had classes on all of this, but no KZbin videos that I knew about. Then please explain that The fig shows compressive forces. the answer has got negative and he take positive as compression. Actually compression is taken first then you have ti to take tension

it might be too late, he did not explain this but, 1200 N in the Y and we found Rb to be -2700 N..... -2700 N + 1200 N = -1500 N

Yes, What you said is absolutely right. The value of Va =1500 in a downward direction, which will be again negative while applying equilibrium equations.

sir shudnt Fbc and Fab be tensile and Fac be compressive? becoz acc to the direction of the axial forces Fac exerts force on the respective member in the inward direction while its the opposite in Fbc and Fab. Pls clarify.

Im sorry for stepping in, let me please answer your question. Truss is not used to hold a load/force in its body but only on its joint, but frame is used to hold a load/force in its entire body. Hope my answer helps.

Hinged support restricts motion along both X and Y direction that is why you get two reactions where as when you talk about a roller support it restricts motion along only one direction that is along the Y direction and that is why you get one single reaction in the vertical direction.....
