During the winter of 2016 we had an extreme ice storm in Southern Ontario. Heavy layers of ice built up on everything and caused massive trees to come crashing down all around us (footage of that storm in an upcoming video). When you live in a forest, storms like these can be very scary. With continuous freezing rain, the trees are leaning towards our house and after each gust of wind, becoming more and more fragile. Power is out, roads are closed… and all I could think about was what was I going to make with all this fallen timber once spring arrives.
When things seem bad, make them rad. - T.T

Nice build, love the freshly peeled logs and then the next day stained. Of course love your support for all the other makers (Sway & Diresta) and community.

Actually I peeled them about 4 weeks before I stained them. You have to peel in spring when the sap is still flowing but they are also very wet at that point. Letting them stay in the sun and wind for a couple weeks is pretty important.

Yeah, I know. I wasn't going to use that finish but I started to notice mold and bugs gathering in the test joints within a week. I live in a very moist valley beside a river so I wanted something that was going to really protect it. This stuff doesn't look great but you're right, weather will get me there.
