People always go on about there being hate between MJ and Prince, but I never believed it. I loved listening to Michael Bland, especially the part where he spoke about them all listening to Earth song and Prince had it blasting out the speakers. Michael tells some wonderful stories about his time with Prince...Thanks very much for sharing this excellent chat with Mr Bland, definitely one of the best I have watched.

I was at that glam slam show too 3 ft from the stage when stevie showed up. The man that led him to the stage was none other then berry gordy. Prince was literally laying on the ground looking up at Stevie while playing the gold symbol guitar like he couldn’t believe he was playing with his idol. P looked humble, a rare sight indeed.

You are the first other person I have heard from who was also present to witness that magical moment. Makes me wonder if that was P's first time playing with Stevie. I know few others happened too, but maybe this was the first?

Thanks for sharing. I am too impressed with how intelligent prince was with a high school education. When I was in high school we didn't learn that much, they were just glad our seats were at the desk. I remember how much the associates really taught me, and that was another 2 years of school. It seems like everyone in prince's camp had degrees though. I guess he learned a lot along the way from people around him. Early on I can see why prince didn't talk a lot in public. Later on he got better at it. For example the 94' Glam slam concert, it was a little awkward for him to explain why the performance wasn't being released. "I'm not signed to a record company, Prince is". I think he knew people didn't understand. So he got flustered and said "you have a place for all of us to stay ". Those 3 nights were off the charts Michael. And the undertaker is so dope, only 3 people did that. I love you on Shhh, is that your material or did prince come up with it? Michael what do you think of prince's drumming? Did prince ever play drums on a song while you waited to get back to the drums? Didn't prince play drums on 3 of his albums? It's always good to hear from you Michael Bland, and thanks again Scott.

Yes, he could be very cryptic. With "Shhh", we worked out the arrangement together as a band, first. Then, Prince says, "All them holes? You gotta fill 'em." So, i figured things out and experimented until i found what i was trying to say, musically. Once we got to Studio A to record it, i knew what i was doing. Prince was a very creative and inventive drummer. Solid time, obviously. I think he played on the first 2, for sure. I strongly suspect that Morris Day played on some of the tracks on Dirty Mind. However, i've never had the chance to ask him. Prince once said i made him hate his own drumming. I'm sure he was being facetious, but i took it as a compliment of the highest order. lol..

I can't believe the principal of Prince's highschool told him to his face that he wasn't going to be anything!! Demanding to know why he wanted to graduate so soon. What a disgrace. In a position like that you should be building UP the students. Not tearing them down.
