I've held a dying kitten in my hands. I've seen and felt its final reflexes. I was 12, and it hit me hard. Even though it's not a pet you've had for years, that kind of pain sticks in your memory. What made it worse was that it was a rescue kitten we found under a tree with four others that had some sort of gut problem that caused it to throw up everything we tried to give it. But waking up one morning to see your cat smashed on the road is one of the worst ways to find out. Worse than not seeing him at all. At least you can be spared the pain of knowing what happened and how when there's no body. That's what happened when one of our cats named CT (Crooked Tail), another rescue, went out just before Halloween one year and never came back. We never learned why, but we figure an owl got him.

lord 2019 was a tough year. we had to put down my dog named Cosmo, he loved me and my family very much, we did not want to see him suffer anymore. we always remember how happy he got when we pulled into a starbucks because he would get a pup cup. he was only supposed to live 1 year because of a hole in his heart, he lived for 10 years, our baby pups.

To those who have lost pets here I want to tell you a few things. First thing is: Don't get on yourself for having good days without them. I am still beating myself up for having good days because my best friend is no longer here. Second: You were their forever. You loved them and they loved you. That's all that matters. You were enough for them. You don't have to change. You were there from the best part of their life to the low parts of their life. No matter what you were always there. You have done so much to give them the best life you could. I know it's hard. Look at every beautiful day as a sign that they are OK. Love you all and try to stay positive❤

These hit so hard when you lose a pet. I put my dog down around 7 weeks ago I believe, it’s honestly worse than losing a family member (not worse than losing a parent) because you’ve literally lived with your pet. In my case, I’ve lived with my dog my whole life until 7 weeks ago. My dog was getting old, got to where he couldn’t even stand, wouldn’t eat unless we put food inside his mouth, and wouldn’t drink. The vets had to carry him into the vet on a bed, stayed with him until I watched his last breath.
