The german bedtime-story was a legit one. It is from a children`s book from 1845 and it is still popular in Gremany. The most well know and unique accent in Canada comes from the far Atlantic provinces. They had a lot of Scottish and Irish immigrants settle there and have retained a lot of those root dialects. Then you also have the neighboring province of Quebec (French) and one of the Atlantic provinces New Brunswick (full bilingual) bringing it a little bit of French as well.
@michaelccozens

I dunno; the stereotypical "Canadian" accent seems to be more the Prairies "Minnesota nice" "Fargo" one, which is largely derived, IIRC, from the fact that Scandeweigan, Dutch, and German immigrants were the groups that took greatest advantage of the "free land" colonization offers the Canadian gov made to secure the area for "white" people at the time in question.

Hoy late to the party but i wanted to say something It's normal that you can hear a bit of Irish in the Canadian accent as a lot of Irishmen came here during The great Irish famine and contributed a lot to the Eastern Canadian culture. On top of that, lots of French Canadian ancestry comes from Northern France (Normandy, Anger, Bretagne) and they brought reels and fiddle music with them during the colonial time. It wasn't long before the cultures got mixed up as they shared musical similarities.
