Kasha with bow tie pasta didn’t make your list? It’s my number 1, and my grandchildren’s favorite as well. They have been eating it since they were old enough to chew it. It is the ultimate comfort food. Make it for your boys. Yes, it’s messy to eat, and tough to clean up, but they need to know this wonderful, cultural dish. I make my own challah, and it is the best. My grandchildren have one on their table every Shabbat. They have helped me bake them as well. What about strudel? My aunt’s was world class, and I make her recipe. Another of my personal favorites is vegetable barley soup made with meat. My mother made it all the time. I am a fan of knishes, too. My husband would probably vote for brisket, which I only do once a year. I can’t make it taste quite like his Aunt’s, unfortunately.

Latkas (but my grandma would make beef stew with prunes and when it's ready she'd put latkas on top of it and they would get that beautiful aromas of stew and get sort of steamed ... ah... ) hamantaschen and gefilte fish (but the proper one in shape of the fish in the fish skin... soooooo good).

My top 5, 5 would agree Matzah Balls, I have added them to a chicken stew.. They are so good. 4 kreplach, so easy and so yummy and popular. I use wonton wrappers and a hamburger mixture. Sometimes leftover brisket. 3 latkes for sure, try putting the mixture in the mini waffle makers.. My grandchildren love them. 2 I can agree to cholent and 1 challah. I give each grandchild their own challah roll and they say their own bracha, then they get a small amount of grape juice and my 7 year old granddaughter says kiddush for the children. Before that they would say their bracha before kiddush, their motzi first. They love this tradition

I haven't tried any Jewish food but as my daughter gets older we're going to start celebrating elements of the big 6 religions (in the sense of learning about other family experiences) and food will 100% be part of that. Very excited to have a go at making challah, latkes and matzah ball soup. I'm typing this without reference to the description or comments so sorry if I've spelt anything wrong!

And folks can watch Ina Garten, Nigella Lawson, Nathalie Dupree, Pati Jinich and others for fine recipes. They tell you what is traditional and what has a twist from their region/nation included. Chanukah is not all that far off now. The year is whizzing past us, I fear. Good list.

I am so glad you had challah as your top pick. I am not Jewish myself so I don't know enough to do a top 10 of my own. However, I was thinking that challah bread is my favourite Jewish food that I have tried, and the Jewish food I would most like to try is humentaschen. Having seen your list, I must see if I can make cholent. It sounds like a great food for winter (I'm in Australia, so it's winter for us here). I do have a question though, is having challah on Friday evening merely a common tradition, or is doing so at the level of being one of the mitzvot?
I was wondering what your opinion of the tv series The Chosen? I have been watching your channel and a few others because of the Chosen. It has made me curious about Jewish life and customs today. I hope you respond, thanks!
