Another good workout, love Shane’s coaching style. Makes me feel included and comfortable. I don’t pay for removal of ads and that’s my choice that I’ll have to deal with. That said, I really wish the ads would at least come during “off” periods. Just three minutes times four and every time you lose momentum when you have to pause to skip ads and realign video with your own timer. This workout loses quite a bit of its appeal through that. As I said, I live with my choice but if you are going to allow mid-workout ads, please at least put them during rest phases.

Man, your videos are AWESOME! Thanks for creating and posting them, I know it takes a ton of time. I feel I hit a gold mine of workout videos when I came across your YT site. I just recently starting rowing on our C2 that's been collecting dust in the basement for years. My wife bought it a long time ago then lost interest. It's dusted off and getting some action now! At 43 I'm easing into things, for a couple reasons: I haven't the first clue about how to row (never rowed a day in my life), and I've never really been athletic (never played any sports, but have done some triathlons). When your first video popped up in my search I previewed it and got pumped to try it out. There are of course other videos that popped up (by not too many, surprisingly) but yours resonated with me and made me want to give it a shot. I love your attitude and approach, and the great technical aspects (video/audio quality, nice edit, visual workout overview, erg monitor setup instructions, timer overlay, stroke count notes when it changes, etc). Doing row alongs with you on the screen keeps me paying attention to my form and technique. I feel if I did workouts from a book I'd be all over the place. I of course checked out your website and see you have training plans but couldn't find anything that showed what's in the training plans. Are they solely rowing workouts or other things? I'd pay monthly for all rowing workouts that are all in one place, organized in an app or whatever, instead of searching through your YT channel, building a playlist then organizing each video for watch to do next, figuring out which one would build upon the previous ones, etc. Do you offer anything like that? Thanks again for the killer videos and great content! Oh one more thing, while doing this workout a couple ads popped up that drove me nuts. I know sometimes YT adds their own ads without you knowing if you have things like unlicensed content, but if you do have control over when the ads appear can you spread them to either before or after the workout session? I don't mind ads popping up to support what you do but it sucks when you have to stop rowing to click out of it. I'd bet this comment has come up from someone else, but I couldn't find it after a quick search, so thanks for entertaining the repeat comment if that's the case.

Started rowing in January this year, trying to improve my skills on the beginner workout since last week. Jumped in this intermediate workout and felt so good after one set that i did another one after about 5 mn rest. And i did that twice this week. First time I spend more than 20 mn on the rower :-) Thank you for your amazing job, love the story of the dark horse.

A big vote of thanks from me and just to let you know that your tutorials do actually work (as if you ever doubted it...) and I have hard evidence to prove it. I have used/owned various C2s for 30ish years but never really understood how to row until I started your tutorials. My personal best for the 2k (7:41.8) was set around 25 years ago (at an incredibly high stroke rate) and I haven't come close in the last 10 years (always 7:56+). However, the other day I woke up and thought I would just do a steady row aiming for an 8 minute 2k - got on the rower, thinking stroke rate; power into the machine; body position etc and passing 500m was wondering why it felt so good - long story short, my time was 7:41.6 - not earth shattering except for me haha and at 62 years of age I will take this!! A big thank you.

Thank you so much for these workouts. I tore my Achilles tendon some years ago. I was never a great runner to begin with but it was the only exercise I knew. Although I healed just fine and was cleared to resume running, running was never the same afterwards. Plus, living in the Northeast made running in the winter less and less desirable. Finding rowing has been a godsend: aerobic and resistance training all in one, most efficient, and low impact. Just fantastic. And I wouldn’t be where I am with rowing if it were not for you and your videos. So I appreciate that very much. Might I make one suggestion? I thoroughly get the need for branding and teambuilding, but “let’s Darkhorse“ doesn’t scan. Darkhorse isn’t a verb (obviously) and it doesn’t translate into one well. Might I suggest “Let’s Go, Dark Horses!” Instead? It’s grammatically more correct, makes a bit more sense, and also lends itself team building, allowing your followers to self identify as “dark horses”, thus building brand identity and brand loyalty.

New to Dark Horse and Concept II rowing. Just began including in my weekly workouts. I have difficulty getting well into zone 3, no matter how hard I push, when controlling my stroke rate as instructed by Shane. At the end of a 3 min interval, I'm breathing a bit, HR about 150. I want to be much more tired at the end of an interval. How can I make this happen? I feel like I am pushing w/ legs and then pulling as hard as I can....

I always hit the "menu" button twice to end the workout. The ErgData app saves at that point for me. In that case I don't get the prompt that asks if the workout is done. If I just start rowing again I get that data in another workout. If the workout is too short (less than 100 meters I think) it won't be stored. I should also mention that during a rest interval, if I stop rowing to get a drink of water I get the prompt about the workout being over. I just ignore it and it disappears when I just start rowing again and the current workout capture just continues. -Dale

Really enjoy your videos, but the mid roll ads really throw off my workout! Especially when trying to maintain a certain stroke rate. My iPad isn’t within reach when I row and a 5 minute mid roll ad came up in the middle of the 3 minute workout portion and I had to unstrap, hit skip ad, and miss some of the workout while strapping back in. At least move the mid rolls to the rest portion (you can control that), but may I humbly suggest you turn off mid rolls for your workouts? The amount of viewers you will lose out of annoyance probably won’t be worth the additional revenue anyway.
