After analysing my clothes over and over again and gathering tons of inspiration, I finally realised I never know what to wear because I don't like how I look in my clothes. No amount of styling will make you like your clothes if you don't like how your body looks, so the starting point for me has to be there and probably for some other people as well. I know the theory, i can make the outfits, now i also have to work on liking how my body looks in them.

I had to slim down to a normal BMI before I really started loving my body. Now my confidence is soaring. I did this for my health, but love how I look now. BTW, after not losing an ounce after more than two decades of extreme calorie limitation (800Kcal/day), I began walking daily (60” minimum) for my health. I was astonished, the weight just fell off, fast. I had already cut out alcohol and sugar, but hadn’t lost weight. Slimmer is healthier, it’s an alternative worth considering for that reason alone. It’s hard to love your body if you really just don’t, I’m not sure that can be changed, but fitness can be🙂

I explained to my 10 year old daughter the impact that fast fashion has and she really took to it. Now she is 13 and loves to thrift and she is exploring with her styles with intention and she is learning about quality over quality. We are learning together 😊. She has to be ok with looking different from her friends which sometimes is hard. Girls are ruthless.

I have a lot of vintage denim dresses from Gap and I've recently discovered they look new and so good with several top buttons undone and a (graphic) t-shirt peeping from underneath. The t-shirts really brighten up the dress and this way I can still wear my cropped Ts which I would not wear at 57 if they were completely visible as I don't want to show my belly. The dress also acts as monochrome dressing as it's the same colour top and bottom, I'm petite and this elongates me. I'm so happy, especially since I almost got rid of the denim dresses last year, thinking I was too old to wear them. I love denim and I'm so glad I kept them, I'll wear them forever, I love cool older lady style!

Something I have to do is take mirror selfies or film myself in an outfit/ new item. It’s odd... when I look in the mirror I don’t necessarily ‘see’ how I look truly, but when looking back on my phone at a video/photo, I can instantly see what works, what doesn’t, what compliments me, what cuts off certain parts of my body etc. It was through this method that I could identify my body shape too and realise I’m not pear shaped, I have narrow shoulders but more of an hourglass, so high waisted trousers or skirts suit me. Material is also everything to me, the same silhouette and item can look horrific if in the wrong fabric!

I have learnt that often when I’m not happy with my clothes, what I really need is a haircut. Once that’s done, I feel smart again. 🤷♀️

Aside from having personal base outfits (jeans + t shirt for example), one of the few things that have helped me is recreating outfits and just trying out new ideas and outfits in my room. No pressure. Just for fun. Like playing adult dress up but with your own clothes. That has helped see what I actually like and what outfits I actually want to recreate from the inspiration I save on pinterestm it's like brainstorming but with clothes. That way when I actually have to go out the door, I already have an idea of what I would like to wear for the ocasion.

You have unexpectedly answered a question I’ve long had: the difference between fashionable and stylish. My great aunt’s college yearbook from 1923 has two full-page photos of two young women chosen as “Miss Fashion” and “Most Stylish.” I couldn’t understand the difference. 😂 I had high quality copies of these two pages made and framed so I may enjoy seeing these two ladies daily.

Most of the time I don't know what I want to wear as a hero piece, tbh. Or the piece doesn't work for the weather that day. I actually just sort of want a vibe. Which is harder to build up on the spot.

My all time hero piece is thr Zara high waist trouser. Love them! As far as having a good base on which to work from, you have to know what works with your body type. For instance, I know that long, wide leg trousers don't look good on me. And every style video seems to include them nowadays.

How great you look in your Summer color palette, Signe! You have such beautiful natural coloring. When I first began watching your channel, I always thought - she’s a Summer, why doesn’t she wear Summer colors? I’m not color-trained, but I can often recognize my own, Summer, type even though my specific coloring is different (bronde hair, hazel eyes, but slightly cool, very pale and very soft). I love my Summer palette that was determined for me in my CMB pro analysis 40 years ago. My summer favorites are white (lots), taupe/cool beige, and light, cool pinks, blues and greens. Navy is “my black”. I do have some black dresses, but always brighten them up around my face with a white blazer, scarf, etc. and makeup, which I don’t wear daily. Because I’m so close to neutral, I also can wear some Soft Autumn colors, like khaki green, but they’re not my best, and I love tan accessories, even though they’re warm, they don’t make a big enough showing to clash with my skin tone.

If you like silk scarves Signe, I love them, you could wear a black-on-white patterned one when you wear a black top or dress. Or a white, collared shirt underneath. Of course, the white tee you’re wearing is good, too. These are my main tricks for wearing the items I have in black, an awful color next to my face. It’s hard to have a completely black-free wardrobe, plus I try to wear what I already have. I just try to limit any new purchases of black items to absolute essentials. It’s useful to have a black dress or two for funerals, too, which, sadly, are much more frequent occurrences for me than they used to be. I have a summer (linen), autumn/spring-season (silk), and a winter (cashmere) one, but I try to wear them more casually and flatteringly, too. My beloved Mom died a year ago, then my stepfather shortly thereafter. At age 63, many of my relatives in my parents’ generation probably won’t live much longer, plus there was the pandemic. It’s awful to see my family going like this, but at least I don’t have to stress about scrambling for something appropriate to wear as it happens. Fortunately, younger people usually don’t have to worry about this as much.

I imagine that we can have several hero pieces in our wardrobe from different categories? I am working on whittling down on my options. It sometimes becomes so overwhelming with the number of pieces I have. I am working on it, though. Thanks for your continued inspiration.
@UseLess_dk Жыл бұрын
Oh yes totally! Sometimes my hero piece is a jacket, a pair of pants or even a pair of shoes. And it can be statement (like my sage green suit) or even something basic like a white tee! To me it basically means building the outfit around that one piece I’m really eager to wear on that day 😄🙏🏻

Linen! You can be covered head to toe in linen and still play around with style when the hot weather hits. I love long summer dresses and accessorising to the occasion... be it strappy heels and fine jewellery or trainers/sandals and a relaxed hairstyle.

I’m an almost 100% skirt and dress wearer and I love wedges or block heels of about 2 inches height, I’m short. This comfy height footwear is getting easier to find, at last. I found some very comfy and reasonably-priced shoes at Talbots, surprisingly, not a brand where I usually shop. I buy only genuine leather or cotton canvas for summer. I’m old-fashioned and love a matching shoulder bag, Sezane has great ones.🙂

Your technique works because you mostly have neutral colors. If a wardrobe has several colors and fabric choices, it become more complicated to blend them. But making careful choices in a wardrobe will reward you with several choices.

I’ve been saying this under these videos for years but The only style tip needed or minimal tip in life is be happy in your body (or within society’s norm of slim culture) it may upset people but it’s the truth!!! I put on weight after my baby and started buying like crazy! It wasn’t the clothes!!! Back to my normal self now and get ready in 5 mins.
@kimberlyperrotis8962 Жыл бұрын
That’s one reason I slimmed down to a normal BMI. Health was my main priority, but finding clothes was tough, too, even though I was only about a size 14 US, which should be in the Regular size range, but usually isn’t. I’m a healthier and happier size 8-10 now, depending on brand and fit.🙂
