In my Nikon days, the rule ‘bird same size as focus square, forget it’’. Now, I will shoot when bird is within the square! Sure, no eye AF but still recoverable. My A1 and 600f4 was the culmination of my GAS but I love it. It was a retirement present.
@MidNightBuoy Жыл бұрын
For some the a6400 is a dream of an camera, in a few hours I'm gonna get my first camera, a Canon T7 (EOS 2000D), it's what I can afford for now, but since I'm starting I'm good with it, so good luck for both of us man, taking photos of birds is way more exciting and rewarding than you can imagine
@anthonylujan9 ай бұрын
I own both the A1 and 600mm and my photography dramatically changed. The fast speed of the focus and clarity from the 600mm is amazing. The birding AF from the A1 is outstanding. The pair, for me, is the perfect scenario! I can't wait to get the new 300mm this week. It was fun watching you shoot with it. With the bird videos you took...was that with the same gear? Not the footage of you.
@RichardBedford-p3q4 ай бұрын
f4 brings so much to the table...at a cost. I almost always shoot with my A1 cameras and my 600mm f4 wide open. It's so sharp and the resolving power combination of the sensor and the lens is superb.

Awesome insight on how it'd be to have a 600mm lense! And I love the message at the end for I'm the type of guy who always wants to own the best gear and fears his photos aren't good without it!
@johndoe-nh9sh Жыл бұрын
Olle, owning one is a commitment, and I say that as someone whose income relies on one. It helps you to create better images and will open opportunities to shoot things in ways the 200-600 cannot achieve, partly because it's f4 and partly because of the speed it aquires and holds AF, especially on the alpha1. The 200-600 is a fantastic lens, moreso when you factor in the price of it, but once you shoot with a supertele prime (like the 400 2.8 or 600 f4) you will start to understand why they cost the money they do. You'll also be very conscious of the cost of it, the size of it, the size of bag you need to transport it and the attention it creates if you are anywhere public.
@Sundara229 Жыл бұрын
My uncle owns the Nikkor 400mm f2.8 with teleconverter that released last year. And yeah, it's a different league in terms of sharpness and bokeh.
@7inrain10 ай бұрын
I couldn't help smiling during the whole video as an owner of the 200-600mm and someone who desperately wants that 600mm prime (and knows it is probably not going to happen). And I can definitely approve to your final message that in the end it isn't the gear but being at the right place at the right time. Subscribed.

I have the Tamron 150-500, on my A7III it was a great lens, though it missed focus sometimes with high speed subjects coming towards me. Now with the A7RV I notice it's not very sharp, so I'm thinking about buying either the Sony 200-600 or this 600mm... But with 600mm you lose flexibility and money for just 1 stop.

@KurtisPape Жыл бұрын
As much as I dream for the 600mm F4 it's a huge commitment because you can't zoom, close focus is 4.5m and F4 a lot of the time doesn't get enough in focus so if you shut the aperture you are now carrying around more weight then you need to. What justifies it, is if you need more than 600mm, the lens takes teleconverters no problems with plenty of light to spare. I upgraded from the A7R IV to the A1 and to me personally it was a game changer, I only use silent shutter at 30fps now with no problems. The autofocus speed and fps were the only features I needed and a large bonus I wasn't expecting were much cleaner images at ISO 2000 and higher.

As usual the animals disappear in a second in an unconcentrated moment. That´s how it happens in most of the cases when chasing a subject. I own the A7R IV + the 200-600mm zoom and I am very satisfied with it. Will switch to the A7R V soon. A1 would have been interesting either but I´d like to have built in focus bracketing which the A7R IV does not have unfortunately. Wish you fun and if you don´t own a 200-600m yet give it a try too before investing too much money in a fixed focal length lens. Sometimes it is good to have the flexibility of a zoom. And the 200-600m doesn´t lack a lot of features compared to the 600m despite the lower f-stop.

Not going to lie after that "Lets be honest, who can pay that amount of money for a lens like that..." i expected a shot of you and the lens you just bought :D Good video and conclusion: Gear doesnt matter at all. I upgraded from my a6000 to a a7iii and the first thing that changed was the weight im carrying with me. I felt betrayed, because my shots were not getting better. However, ISO definately was a huge difference and helps when not having the best of the best lenses. > best to increase skill is time. Waste time as much as possible and also FAIL! I made so many mistakes that are not stuck in my head and i barely do them again.... barely... :) Also I wished Sony would invite me as a no name, to those eventsm, they seem to be quiet fun!

For me, owning a Sony 600mm f4, it marks a realisation of 25 years in the waiting. Its f4 is so appealing to me as a bird in flight photographer - It means that I shoot wide open at f4 and everything is sharp, everything has a beautiful bokeh, my ISO is always low (even at 1/3200), its autofocus is super-fast and its resolving power combined with either of my A1 cameras or my A7RV is unbelievable. By day I'm a surveyor but I am also an agency bird photographer for the RSPB here in the UK. I saved hard and made the purchase happen, it's that important to me.
