Today I'm trying a new technique on the gel plate. I've used Golden high flow paints on the gel plate before but this time I'm doing it in a free form way without a stencil. I'm just painting right from the bottle on to the plate. Check it out.
I'm slowly rolling out my line of stencils and masks. Check them out here: susanclifton.c...
Here are the colors I used in this video:

I am a retired high school art teacher. I purchased two gelli plates and watch your videos daily, learning so much before I venture into the process. Watching the entire process from deli prints to multiple layers is so valuable. Thank you!

Making the backgrounds is my favourite part. I’ve made some stunning backgrounds over the last few days. I think I’ve finally found my bliss. Only took 54 years…

This was great! I love watching you experiment - gives me ideas of things to try (or not) with my sessions. Your ‘least favorite’ (the orange & black) is my favorite! It reminds me of some of the surrealist paintings.

That was fun to watch. I'd just done some gel prints myself. I think I need some liquid paints like you use, my acrylic paints dry too fast in the current heatwave in Australia.
@SusanCliftonArtist

The high flow paints work on the plate but in a totally different way. And because they bead up on the plate they take long to dry. But for regular acrylic that can be brayered on I would go with Golden open acrylics if you want paints that dry slower. Enjoy!

Could you try a dip pen with the very liquid acrylics on the plate? Probably very delicate effects.

can i add a drop of water to paint to equal a high flow paint? or is there more to the high flow paint>
@SusanCliftonArtist
@SusanCliftonArtist 5 ай бұрын
I don't know much about the chemistry of high flow but a drop of water is not enough to get that consistency. They do make High Flow Medium that thins and extends your acrylic paints.

What paper weight are you using to do the main print?
@SusanCliftonArtist
@SusanCliftonArtist 4 ай бұрын
It's rice paper. They don't list the paper weight on the packaging. Here is the link: amzn.to/3mgru8L. I think they are currently out of stock but they will be back.
