Hi Susan. I don't know if you are still reading comments for this video because you did it a while ago, but hopefully you are. I watch and sometimes rewatch a lot of your videos. You have been very helpful to me. I have found the best way to get the effect you are getting here is by using paint I have mixed up for acrylic paint pouring. I pour a little from the bottle (really a little) and then brayer it out. It beads immediately. It does still take time to dry, however, I have used the hair dryer many times and there have been no ill effects so far. I don't let it get too hot but it does save a lot of time. I often get one ready before I go to bed and let it dry naturally overnight so I have one ready in the morning. Sometimes I use more than one colour, but I don't mix them very much. Sometimes, I also have more than one gel plate going at one time. The way I mix my pouring paints is about 50/50 paint and Australian Flowtrol and then water until I get the correct consistancy. It would most probably work without the Flowtrol as well but this way the acrylic bonding isn't broken down. (I never got very good at acrylic paint pouring and it does use up a ton more paint than gel plate printing. I find the gel plate stuff much more rewarding and cheaper.) I now have hundreds of pieces of gel prints. I find it quite addictive. I frame some, but I find the best way to use them is to collage with them and to paper mache with them. With these methods I can use up the smallest scraps of coloured paper. Nothing goes to waste. Thank you for doing what you do. I love your work and always click on the like button. Keep up the good work. Michael Gallen in Tuncurry, NSW Australia.

I love the colours used on these papers and the difference between the papers as well. I have noticed that when you are applying pressure to the papers to pull the prints, you seem to concentrate on the top and sides more than you do on the bottom of the pape. is this intentional? And why wouldn't you use a barron to apply equal pressure all over? Just my thoughts - they all turn out beautiful anyway you do them. Thank you for sharing.

I start out prepared to save my brayer sheets. I try to fill the whole paper, turning it so the marks go in different directions and cover most of the white page. If I spot something really nifty looking, I make sure to stay away from it so I don't cover it, or if I'm using colors that REALLY won't look good together, I've already got other sheets waiting to use instead. 😊

So great! Curious about how small you'll cut pieces out of that wonderful print at the 20 minute mark. Large pieces show off those great shapes, but I wonder what you use. Thanks so much. I love your videos!

That was a very interesting observation about the buildup of paint on stencils and masks influencing the density of the paint in the masked area left on the plate. I'm going to try to get the outlines also.

We used to use full page labels applied to our choice of fabric. Gives the same stability. Will still go through your printer and should work the same on your gelli. Cheaper too. We also were able to reuse the label.

The background music really IS distracting for an otherwise informative video. Muting the sound and enabling subtitles makes it watchable.

Thank you so much for your tutorial it helped me understand geli printing a bit more before I embark on this journey, carry on doing what you do in anyway you choose too, there will always be someone that we cannot make happy in anything we do and that is ok, we are all on our own journey that doesn’t always come across as kind or grateful, but for all the thousands of us that are grateful for precious time you give to these videos ❤ 🙏🏻

This is such a great video! Virtually every artist I've ever known is like a crack addict when it comes to art supplies, including former me and I still have tendencies! Your tips are great and are what I practice now. One thing you could address is online shopping for art supplies, since so many people do that now. There's no real art supply store anymore where I live (blessing in disguise?), so I have to order online. Last night I wanted to try out 2 items, went to order them on Jerry's and found myself looking around to add more to the order to meet the minimum for free shipping. Even though I didn't need anything else! Suddenly I realised what I was doing, all just so I could save a few bucks on free shipping, but paying well over that amount for things I didn't need and don't want to devote the space to. So I paid the $3 in shipping and saved myself $20+, and now won't have to crowd the space for my brushes (already have too many I don't use, because it turned out they were duds). Win/win! It's been a year+, but about those stretcher bars, if you want to paint smaller, you can use the 30" bars and get a few 18" or 24", and use them. Likewise with the 60", if you want to paint something less rectangular. Better to figure out a way to use them that fits with what you want to do than to store them indefinitely. Not that I've learned this from experience or anything ;)

Susan, I’m wondering if you use much fabric in your collages or any at all? Do you know ow anyone go does? Professional Quilter with waaay too much fabric and I’m buried in scraps. I love every bit of it but would like to use it more while I’m on this detour.

I'm so glad I came across this vdo! You explain the process better than anyone I've watched before. I reasoned you have to 'think backwards' in the layers, but thinking that way only confused me. You word it really well: the first layer is what shows up best, and the last layer is the 'pull-up' layer. Yay! Also, I really like your use of ghost-prints. I only knew them as a second print. Now, I learned to actually CREATE ghost-prints, so they'll be functioning as the first layer! Thank you so much!
