I also would recommend using one without an applicator, they are much easier to position My favourite brand is o.b., I'm not sure if you can get them in the UK? But they go in and out SO smoothly and they are also a little shorter I think, so you might feel them less once they are in

Something that might be reassuring to you is depending on your flow it can last up to 4-8 hours, there’s no minimum, take it out whenever you need to swap or if you’re uncomfortable!

Funny how everyone is different, I can't use the non-applicator ones or the cardboard ones. I find the plasticky ones great (though not eco friendly). I find angling it towards your back, pushing the applicator in till your fingers touch your body and push the tampon part in till it clicks is the best way for it to be in right and comfortable. And DON'T take it out too early, if it's too dry it's so uncomfortable!! You'll be FINE xxx

The lil lets non applicator tampons are the best, they are the only tampon ive ever used and they are amazing, lil lets tampons were made by a female gynaecologist in 1954 which is alot more reassuring that they are affective because they were made by a women who also had her periods and a gynaecologist is a bonus, Feminine hygiene products Made for women by women is the best in my opinion 😋

I couldn’t use tampons very well until I tried the tampax pearl (with the plastic applicator) as they just glide in! Unfortunately the ones with card applicators tend to bend or break for me and it’s wasted. I’ve found ones with applicators are far easier than without as they guide you on how far they should be in. If you can feel it then it’s not in enough 😊

If you can feel the tampon, it is not far enough up. Probably worth trying it right at the start of a period, when the flow is heaviest, and finding a time when you are not rushed or under pressure and in your own bathroom or a bathroom you feel comfortable in. I found it easiest to stand up with one leg on the toilet seat and aim it towards the small of your back, rather than straight up. After insertion, if you've ever done those kegel exercises where you squeeze your pelvic floor muscles (as if to stop yourself peeing) and pull up, it can be useful to do that as it shifts the tampon into the right position. Always make sure that the strings are hanging out externally. Removal is very easy, just tug on the string! If you want something internal, you might find moon cups easier? I hate the mess of pads/period pants and so I've mainly used tampons and moon cups since the age of 15.

Id really recommend using one without an applicator - they are easier to use as you have more control.

When I tell you I got so excited for you when I seen the title! It is such a weird feeling but it’s a huge accomplishment to overcome that fear! 😊

I've always related to your content - the tampon thing is next level though - so sad we've all had a horrible tampon experience at some point and it's GOALS that you have a partner who is willing to rescue you if needed.

I first used tampons in my late teens and found them easier and more comfortable to use during my heaviest flow, easier to insert and remove and change quickly (even if I was out and about). At the start and end of my period I preferred to use towels or liners. Keep trying and if not for you, go back to what you are comfortable with xx

I havent used a tampon in about 10 years because I use a period cup but I agree you might find it easier without an applicator as it gives you more control over the angle that it goes in at and how far, sometimes with an applicator when you push down it seems like it gets stuck so you have to press harder which means you have less control over placement. I do feel the string when I have one in but if its positioned correctly I cant normally feel the tampon itself

Try the moon cup! You can leave it in pretty much all day, won’t feel it, take it out in the shower at the end of the day & is cost effective and sustainable! Best decision I’ve ever made 🎉

I never got on with tampons. I didn’t like putting them in, and didn’t like how they felt. Sometimes this was because I hadn’t put them in far enough, sometimes I just needed to wait a little for it to feel more comfortable, but I just grew to dislike them tbh! I don’t use them anymore but if I were to go back I’d say top tip is to use the smallest size you can get away with. It’s amazing how much blood they will take so personally I would usually stick to regular or a mini if flow was light, as I found I felt the larger ones too much. Can’t comment on applicator ones I never used them. They didn’t really appeal to me.

I used a tampon for the first time when I was 29 on a holiday to go swimming it was a little uncomfortable the first time but second time I went a little further and it was better. I also used ones without applicators. Back to pad tho only when needed for swimming 😂

I hate the pearls, Tampax compak are the best. I normally feel pressure if either it’s not up enough or it’s ready to be changed. If it feels dry/rough inside then I find it’s because it’s the wrong level E.g regular when only need a light. I’ve been a tampon user for years and put it in and out whilst sitting on the toilet, some ladies do it differently x

Personally, I find non-applicator SO much easier and I can get it up further without an applicator then can’t feel it. Takes a while to get used to, but obviously you’re not a virgin so shouldn’t be too tricky or painful or anything x

Not TMI at all. I've tried so many tampons and just always felt them, I'm under 5 foot so think they're just too big for me, i can push them as far in as they'll go and ill still be aware of them and sometimes sitting down is painful etc. Hope you get on with them asap

Girl, please please please try a cup. I didn’t like using tampons too, they felt uncomfortable and pulling it out is so problematic and messy. Menstrual cup gives you the same benefits and you can leave it up to 12 hours, there is no trash, you just buy one and it lasts for ever (I have mine for 3 years now), and it doesn’t feel so harsh like the tampons do (at least to me, I always felt like tampons are harsh). And because your period doesn’t come to contact with air there is no “period smell”. I’m very sensitive to smells so it’s important to me 😂

And it’s not TMI to talk about periods. Half of human kind has them, let’s talk about them. I love when people are casual about periods 🙌🏻🙌🏻
