The rusks are meant to be dunked in coffee or tea. I have it like that every morning. Rusks are a traditional Afrikaans food, dating way back to when people did not have refrigerators and needed food to last a long time. They are baked and then dried in the oven at low heat, so they can keep in and air tight container for weeks, even months.

From South Africa here, Ouma risks are the best dipped in tea or coffee, we don’t really eat them by themselves. You also should try Mrs Balls Chutney Simba Chips, and defintely shoudl try biltong next time 😊no Bar One isn’t an energy bar, just a chocolate. The champion toffees aren’t dates 😂 you must get to the inside of the suckers, there’s sherbet in the middle 😍 also with what Josh said about the flake being hard to eat, we do also have a dipped flake which had a thin layer of chocolate around it so that it doesn’t crumble apart as easily 😍

The Ouma (Afrikaans for "Grandma") rusks say "sliced" as opposed to "chunky" - that means the bread/cake it was made of was sliced before it was dried instead of broken in rough pieces. It originated centuries ago as a way to store bread on ships and during other long trips - you might as well dry it out before you take it with you than let it dry out and get stale at sea. Very interesting to see a first time reaction to things we know so well in South Africa!

Hi guys! I am a South African. Awesome to see you love our snacks! Just a tip though, our Ouma Rusks are made to enjoy with coffee or tea. You literally dunk the rusk into tour coffee or tea, which then makes it softer to eat! They are not made to be eaten just as is. Give it a try!

You guys should make another South African snacks video, but with speckled eggs, a bunch of different simba brand chips, Nik naks, rooibos tea (for the ouma rusks), flings, ghost pops, biltong and droeworse.
