trying again at a 10-item wardrobe || my minimalism journey

attempt number 2 on the road to a 10-item wardrobe and I'm honestly feeling pretty proud of myself! I decluttered a trash bag full of clothes from my wardrobe and nailed down what I genuinely love to wear instead of holding on to pieces I want to wear or might wear again in the future.

i’ve been binge watching all your videos lately since youtube recommended you, and you’ve made me want to go through everything i own too 😆 ive decided to put all the things i dont completely love into a box for a month and if i haven’t missed them i’m getting rid of them, i find it so hard with sentimental items though 😩

My skin is sensitive to synthetics too, so for the winter I wear a natural thin wool base layer to keep me warm :) unless wool bothers you, but if you invest in a higher quality one then it shouldn't itch! Just a thought :)

Cool! Just found you! As I watched you, you taught me that you can tell the “perfect” items from your reaction. You light up and smile more in your video when it’s a definite keeper. Your body language hesitates and you facial expressions change when it’s something you should donate. I will take this with me when I declutter. If it’s not 100%, it can go! What also helps is if you pack for a weekend or week away and then keep what you pack. I notice I usually use the same favorites. With pants I usually have a fit problem so they need replacing when my size changes. Its really hard to find good jeans. But I am a jeans legging girly.

10 items is quite difficult. I need about 5 tops(spring summer=4 blauses 1tshirt in fall winter= 1 flannel, 1 turtlenech and 3 sweaters) 2jeans. for home 2 hoodies/sweatshirts 3 pairs of leggings 1 sweatpants. Extra= 3 cardigans, 5 pijamas, 2 sneakers, one nice shoe, one winter boots, one retro jacket, black jacket(summer), one nice coat and I need to get a new winter jacket/windbreaker, I also have 1 black dress, a swimsuit, a bikinni and thats about it. I did not mention bras, undies, socks and home socks/slippers.

I am leaning towards 10 items for fall/winter and 10 items for spring/summer bc NY is an extreme climate. so really at the and of the day I'm closer to a capsule wardrobe probably but not quite fully landing on either capsule or 10-item wardrobe. I'm still figuring it out :)

love your minimalist haul but more importantly the mentality. Do you use the workout shorts as underwear say underneath your overalls or other pieces. Love the overalls look and am trying to make my wardrobe go further. Do you use the nike pros as shorts underneath the overalls by chance? I take a lot as an aspiring minimalist myself from how you pair and leverage your wardrobe without having to splurge. Dani

I've acquired a few pieces since visiting home this past week and will be decluttering a few more. I will make an update video consolidating my wardrobe before putting it into the new shelving system in our closet🥰

Good job! I'm wondering if when you take out the items you're going to dye, you'd be willing to give them a second thought about decluttering before automatically going with your decision to dye them. Just an additional monkey wrench to add to your thought process 😉

@@gracenevitt I think the thought process is important too, not just decluttering something for the sake of getting rid of it, but thinking about why it might be kept. (I haven't had all my coffee. I hope that made sense) You have a good thought process -- not just rationalizing why you're keeping something. 😸

Great job! You have come a long way with your decluttering journey. I think you own a reasonable amount of clothing and the seasonal items make sense for where you live. I would just stop calling it a 10 item wardrobe since you need the extras. Many successful capsules have 33 items. That would seem a better fit for you. You could include your outerwear and transitional pieces. Just a thought.

you're right! I'm still trying to get to a 10-item wardrobe. when you live in a place with an extreme climate it's pretty difficult to have just a 10 item wardrobe. I have one for spring/summer and one for autumn/winter plus (a few too many) extras that I wear year-round.
