I've been playing tin whistle as my job for nearly ten years now and I've yet to play a whistle that comes close to the quality and tone of Colin's whistles. They really are the best of the best. If you are thinking of buying one just do it, you wont regret it!

Thanks for this review. I've played a Goldie low D for years, and wouldn't swap it for any other whistle I've ever tried or heard. The only limit on these whistles is the player!

Would be nice to hear what a hard blow sounds like. I'm in a toss up at the moment. Colin also does medium soft and medium hard, also something I'm considering. Sucks to have to make a decision on just one. Obviously I don't want to regret not getting something different lol

Hi Stephanie, learning new tunes has now become a lot easier and now I am looking around again for a new whistle. I already have a Low D, a C and a D. I reckon a G-whistle would be nicely in the middle. I looked at several over your reviews, but I couldn't really find any that discuss the differences between Low D, E, F, G whistles, or maybe I overlooked it if you have. Possibly a Low F is too close to my Low D and a Low G doesn't require piper's grip. Do you have any recommendations for a Low G whistle?

Hi CutiePie, is that soft blower Goldie a .97 of .94. ? I'm getting my first Goldie low whistle. I do have an MK Pro to compare which is comfortable to play. I only wish the 2nd octave was a bit less forced if that makes sense. I can get a Goldie with the following numbers: .85 .87 which is medium .93 and .95 . Any help would be much appreciated, thanks!

I honestly don't know how the numbers affect the whistle, so you'd be best asking the whistle maker there. Pretty sure this was a .97 though, they were on loan so I don't have them anymore unfortunately 😭🤣

Well, it's safe to say there's no perfect whistle for everyone, it's a very personal thing, so whether it's 'better' than one you like, that's half the price, is impossible to say. I think it depends on what you play for...If you play at home for yourself, I don't think it's really worth getting one. They're very good whistles, but will only make a difference if you play it often, really get to know it and push it to it's limits. If you play regularly for performance, for a paying audience, as your job, in a band, for recording etc, it's a professional instrument with a lifetime warranty and as you get to know it, it will likely perform better than one half the price...but it's only going to be as good as the person playing it, and it'll definitely sound better if it suits your style of playing. Generally though, items that are more expensive, are more expensive for a reason.

I'm curious how this compares to the MK Pro. I've heard even the soft-blowing Goldie has more backpressure, but the high notes are apparently easier than with MK. Can you confirm this?

High notes are easier on both of the Goldie whistles than the MKpro
