For me personally it's the top hole in low C whistles that causes the most problems because the stretch makes me tilt the index finger in a way that makes sealing the top hole difficult

Just ordered mine. My 7th or 8th - because no-one can own just 1 whistle. I been playing my Howard's low D with a reed mouthpiece for some time, but realised not everything I play is Irish music and something in C would be useful. I love Howard's always. The only other whistle missing from my collection though is a high D from Roy McManus and they seem crazy rare.

Been playing for a few days. It just comes down to relative finger length, for me. I index on 3 & 6, then move my hands close to the instrument until 1 & 4 are comfortable.......and then I find 2 & 5 are the problem. Not a big problem though. Feels like I need to roll my fingers a little to get better coverage. But it's fun to relearn the vanilla key again after a year playing in D almost exclusively. Honestly, I had a Reed mouthpiece on my Low D and Balanced mouthpiece on the Low C and that difference is noticeable too, in the basic difference in sound. Might order more alternatives. Interesting - same diameter, so I swapped the Reed mouthpiece from my Howards low D to my new low C (I bought the low C with a Balanced mouthpiece) and it eliminated quite a bit of the squeaks and odd sounds. So that's one way to start with the low C.

I was so lucky I found the last C# Howard low for sale 🙂 spoke to the person selling them now and he said they haven't even the spec for them anymore. Felt chuffed. Have just ordered the low D just love these whistles. Once you get the hang the upper octave is as sweet as honey 🍯

The whistle has a very rich and warm sound. Great review. The Carbony whistles are great, and a premium price. A couple of features Carbony has that a lot of people don’t know, you have 30 days to return it if you do not like it, and it has a lifetime warranty on the whistle.

A Doozie of a whistle for sure; it would make my fingers cramp up 😀But in the hands of an artist like yourself, the sound...full bodied and rich especially with the edited sound, is amazing.

I would like a whistle that plays the low C whistle notes, but all the low C whistles are expensive. The low G whistles are a lot more affordable and they can play the same notes. Would I be missing out on anything by getting a low G whistle instead?
@CutiepieTinWhistle Жыл бұрын
The low G whistle doesn't play the same notes as a low C whistle, as it's higher pitched. So if you got a low G, you wouldn't be able to play the low C, C#, D, D#, E, F or F# that this whistle plays. You'd be starting at the G higher up in this note list, and play higher notes from there.
@jeffreycordes6518 Жыл бұрын
@@CutiepieTinWhistle I guess what I meant was how a whistle can also play (using fully covered holes) the notes of the major scale of the fourth note of its scale (how a D whistle can play the notes of a G scale)

@@jeffreycordes6518 well yes, you csn certainly play in a few different keys on one whistle 😊

Are recorders played in England and Ireland? Here in the United States, recorders are much more common than whistles. Any input on the history?
@CutiepieTinWhistle Жыл бұрын
Recorders are played in the UK, and are a lot more popular and well known than tin whistle! Most people I speak to here in Wales don't know what a tin whistle is 🤣🙈 As for recorders, they're usually the first instrument children get introduced to in schools. In Ireland, tin whistle is definitely more popular, everyone's heard of one, though I imagine there are plenty of recorders around too.

@@CutiepieTinWhistle Do you know which came first, or I mean is the older instrument?
@CutiepieTinWhistle Жыл бұрын
@@timgehman4029 well there are many ancient flutes, so being a little simpler in design, the tin whistle is likely to have been closer to the earlier flutes in design 😊

I don't know I'm afraid. Sorry. x

As far as I know, if you buy directly from the maker, they offer free shipping worldwide and fast shipping for like 10 quid, so I reckon that might do the job :D

Thanks, ordered a low C with 2 day shipping directly from his site. Very not painful. So excited!
@healingenso7923 Жыл бұрын
Shipping direct from Howard's is "[FREE] 7-21 days Worldwide Shipping (1-2 days UK)". But my low D was about 5 days to Arizona, I recall. And I paid $223.24 this week for the low C black silk & balanced head.
