Trying Cross Stitching for the First Time! ★ First Impressions

It's definitely not perfect and I definitely messed up some areas, but I still love it! I think I really started getting the hang of it about half-way through the project. I wish the kit had better instructions, but it was still enjoyable!

I've been doing cross stitch for years! I wanted to make a quick present. This is not the way to do it! Start in the middle and work out!. The kit didn't tell you what colors to use! It had the number of the colors but not where it was at. I finished it in 2 days and I had to guess! It doesn't really have any instructions for a beginner. I don't recommend this!

I was so confused as to why there were no instructions since it looked like a beginner's kit! I had no idea about starting in the middle, thank you for the tip! My canvas was also not correctly made, so that didn't help either I like how it turned out despite the setbacks, but I definitely wish I could have actually learned something.

@WillowWispForest I made the Robin. The colors were so close that it was impossible to tell which one was right! I know how to thred a needle, but this was impossible! I don't retread colors to skip a few counts. I only wanted to see how you removed the extra material and it didn't show that! I've always framed mine.

​@peggyford108 Do you mean the extra canvas at the back of the frame? I just tightened the screw as tight as I could with pliers and cut around it with scissors. It looked super messy though. I probably should have tucked it in the back and maybe attaches some fabric to the back of the frame to hide it.

I thought about supergluing the hoops to the canvas, but it's so small. I wish I could show you how it looks. It wasn't even worth the trouble to prevent unraveling. I would love to have a list where I can find your designs.

This is pretty good (ish) for your first time. I got my first kit about a week ago and I just want to share what I learned so far: 1) always start in the middle until you feel comfortable starting elsewhere especially if you want an exact center piece 2) idk if you did or not but make sure all stitches go in the same direction ie if your first half stitch goes bottom up, all next stitched should follow the same and same goes for the stitch that goes across the first half, all go in same direction. If not, it’ll be wonky and uneven 3) get a seam ripper and needle threader (seam ripper in case you make a major mistake.) the needle threader is self explanatory, it will help get your thread into the needle so it won’t take 4000000 minutes

Something I find really cute and funny about this video is that I was looking for a video to see how to do this cuz I bought this and I was going to give it to a friend who really likes mushrooms and it's the same exact one so I was like oh that's so funny and the funny thing is is our nails are also painted the same exact color 🤣

My backs were super messy, but if you don't care about that I basically looped my needle around one of the X's in the back and just did a simple knot to tie that off. It was how I was taught to tie off buttons when sewing, so I just did the same thing here. The kit didn't really explain anything, so I was just winging it.
