Seeing your parents help each other cut durian is so adorable. I have this weird thing about once I try something new (weird tasting) I don’t like the flavor on my first try but after a few days, maybe even months I find myself craving for it and go back to trying it again and actually loving it afterwards. Don’t know if it’s the same for others though. Lol. Btw it was natto beans, cottage cheese, and jackfruit (all eaten separately). Would love to try durian too.

Here are some durians for first timers. Musang King durians: Yellow flesh. One of most popular durians and well loved. They are really creamy andtaste bitter at first but have a really sweet honeylike aftertaste. XO durians: Pale yellow flesh. Ideal for beer or wine lovers. Soft creamy texture with an slight alcoholic taste. Red prawns: A must try one of a kind durian. Unlike other durians they have an orange flesh instead of yellow. But they are creamier and sweeter than an average durian. But they have a slight, egg yolk like taste at first. D13: An ideal durian for beginners. A similar color to Red Prawn durians. They are sweet, not very fibrous and the taste is not very strong. But still keeps its creamy texture. Green bamboo: Deep or light yellow flesh. Unlike most durian flesh, they are crunchy. But extremely sweet. I heard that the scent of durians are loved and hated by different people depending on their reaction to durians. Some say it smells like rotten cheese, garbage bins, etc. To me it smells really sweet and delicious. Depending on what you think of durians, you gotta try em urself.

Durian is considered one of the more acquired tastes in the fruits section, and considering they're expensive, dangerous to harvest, and a lot of public spaces and planes hate the terrible smell, it's hard to find if you don't have direct contact to a grower. A lot of people overestimate the toughness of a durian, since they don't feel very tough, just spiky, but if one huts you directly on the head, it'll most likely be a trip to the hospital, if not the morgue.

Hello Lisa! In Malaysia, durian and spice is a formidable combination, so if you have any durian left over, you should try making this! (Usually they make this with *fermented* durian flesh, but I imagine people would either think you have a stinkbomb or a dead body in your fridge. Normal durian already has a pretty bad rep.) Here’s the recipe, roughly, you can scale it down to how much ingredients you have: - 1 sweet onion, 5 shallots, 3 garlic cloves, 20 Thai chilies, and a handful of dried anchovies or dried shrimp, blended together - 1 cup durian flesh (pls separate the seed!) - 4 tbsp cooking oil - salt & sugar to taste First of all, heat up the cooking oil on medium-high heat. Add the blended ingredients and fry until fragrant. Add about a cup of water and continue cooking it down after the water has boiled off. You can do this step a couple more times, but I think once is enough. Once the water has boiled off and you can see that the oils have separated, add the durian flesh and mix them together. Add salt and sugar to taste. It’s really great on rice. If you want to cheat you can totally just get some bottled sambal and mix some together with the durian flesh xD

Hello, malaysian here, an advice for you, to make things easier, you need to poke at the bottom of the durian with large knife, because, as you can see, all the compartments were unified down there, once you poke it, you can easily separate each compartment which usually contains 3 to 4 durian flesh, fun fact, if you feel heartburn after eating lots of durians, you can make one of the compartment as a cup to drink some water, and surprisingly, that's the only amount of water that you need to drink, the volume of the compartment is sufficient to relieve the heartburn, otherwise, lots of water can cause you bloating

I used to get durian when it was $2 a pound. Now it's like $5 a pound. My local Asian market has frozen durian pods for a lot cheaper. Also, any bump on the fruit has a pod. My old boss was Thai, and she taught me how to open them by hand. Each bump has a seam, and you can open the seam with your thumbs, but it takes a lot of strength.

As an asian living in Singapore, i absolutely LOVE durian. That's why I'm sad to see people from other countries not enjoying it. Y'all should definitely try eating durian from a country that grows it (like Malaysia) trust me, eating it fresh makes a lotttt of difference. I've eaten durians that were old and trust me, i can see why people wouldn't like it. Obviously it's not for everyone, but i feel like it's only fair if you've tried one IN an asian country

@@jaxnfps Singaporeans usually just cross over to Malaysia to get their durian fix. Durians are a lot cheaper in Malaysia too when in season.

At the bottom (not where the stem is the other side) there’s like a star where u can see it separates the parts, u can take a small knife and cut along it Not a single piece wasted 🤗
