When it comes to classic French eateries in New York City, few are more iconic than SOHO's Balthazar. We sent Alex Delany to this famous brasserie to try one of everything on the breakfast menu, and we didn't send him alone. For this episode, he was joined by French-speaking pastry expert Claire Saffitz to eat way too much food and drink multiple bowls (yes, bowls) of milky coffee.

Thank you! I'm looking at the easier dishes, they are the most expensive by profit margins. Insanity. I won't even feel comfortable eating like that even if someone paid for me. I grew up eating cheap and well because people worked hard. I know you have to pay workers decent wages, but I don't think you should charge people $21 for an omelet and $6 for a boiled egg????? I can get an dozen organic, top of the line, happy chicken eggs. I know I'm rambling, but these prices makes me a bit crazy.

To me that sounds like business like usual for a business that's all about food and cooking. The somewhat weird stuff would be ingredients like boxes of ostrich eggs or even highly specialized glazing machines, and the strangest of all would be the dremel tools and whatever other repurposed powertools Claire brings to the test kitchen for Gourmet Makes. Grapefruit for $11? Sounds pretty normal, especially given that they are situated in the heart of a big city with big boy prices and fancy establishments.
