Those 'donut holes' are made with quark in the dough which gives them the special flavour. Namimunkki is just branding, nami means either sweets or 'yummy' as an expression, they could be called 'rahkamunkki' so people knew what they actually were.

"Nami" is a onomatopoetic word. You might have help remembering it from the Cookie Monster's "nom nom nom", or from the derived memes about "(for the) noms". It can be used like "nom nom nom" - "nami nami nami", or as a noun (as in "the noms", but we have a singular in Finnish too) "nami". "Ostetaan nameja." - "Let's buy some noms."

you know, i'm REALLY missing the basic donut rings with cardamom that you got from fuel stations that were just oil fried and rolled in sugar. but the absolute best treats were the blueberry paw-donuts. paw shaped, filled with nice blueberry jam, donut pockets crusted with rough sugar.
@Tylran
@Tylran Жыл бұрын
I know this is super late, but the flavoring/ of the "donut hole" donut is probably either quark (a fermented, yoghurty type of thing), or possibly just cardamum, as they come as either quark or just regular versions, the regular version being a regular Finnish munkki dough, which tends to have cardamum in it.

Those small "munkki" are nicer when they are home made and you dip them in jam. So try to make some small "munkki" at home and buy good different kind of jams. Then you can sit around the table with Cat and taste them in different versions!! You can also melt chocolate or what ever you can think of as a good dip!!

Finnish style munkki, what you ate last is not a doughnut at all, at least not for me it isn't, because it's not made from the same dough as those other doughnuts. We call all kind of doughnuts as munkki as well you call them, such as those berlin doughnuts, but when those are ring shaped, people prefer to call them as donitsi. But the last one is the same kind of munkki what you eat during Vappu! 👌🏻 Ps. That smell is most likely coconut oil, which is usually used to deep fry those munkki doughnuts.

I prefer the Omars, haven't had a berliner in years. The pätkis munkki are ok I guess. The last munkki you tasted are the munkki that people make and eat at vappu.

Team Berliininmunkki here, though Omar is a good sweet snack too. You should try lörtsy, both sweet and salty, if you havent yet.

Omar is berliininmunkki with different jam and icing. In my opinion it should taste more like Omar candy to be on the same level with berliini. On the other hand, berliini can taste too sweet if you have had sugar lately. By the way, nami means yummy.

Well mine are called tori-posso (or possumunkki from the market-Place) and hillomunkki (has jam inside). Nami just means Yummy or a treat or a sweet -- the namimunkki is just trying to advertise with such a name. Of course, I think the best ones don´t need to advertise in such a manner because everyone knows how good they are... Oh and how about a recipe for mokkapalat?

About the pätkis chocolate bar. If you don't like the traditioal flavor of pätkis I think you should taste the 99 grams pätkis bar. I know this sounds crazy but for me they taste different and the bigger one is better.

Nami munkki 5/5. they are so sweet, but yet it's not too sweet. Nami = Nam. So it's just sweet-doughnut. But alas. Home made "rinkeli" is still better, not with coffee, but with milk. Berlin-doughnut is definitely a coffee treat. btw. try namimunkki as a desert after dinner, so good (with cacao drink) Fine video, keep up your finnish lessons. and have a great day today.

Omar is better imo, Berliininmunkki has wayyy too much jam in it. I really like the pink frosting tho 😁🧁
