I think it's important to mention that Chris Clavin is in this documentary. This was filmed several years before the accusations against him surfaced. As you watch this, you should bear these accusations in mind. Demand accountability,
support the victims, do not perpetuate rape culture.

About a year ago I saw this and it around the same time I started doing my own DIY Folk punk thing... Now I'm in four awesome bands, I've released so much music locally for free and I feel so content with my life, I have a super small record label called A//PEACE records and I'm living my dream. If you want to make art just please go do it, if you don't have a scene make one, do what you want together or by yourself. Just go and make art... Even if it may suck.

I remember when my old bandmates came home from the PIX space in Cairo with a handful of CDs of bands I'd never heard before. One said Wingnut Dishwashers Union on it and looked interesting, so I took it out to the shed that was my bedroom and put it in the CD player. Pat came on screaming "I've got no future I suppose besides this road," and I knew immediately that this was music from people like me, and that we understood each other.

i'm so happy this exists! many thanks to the person who made this, and to these bands (ramshackle glory, ghost mice, andrew jackson jihad, etc.) for providing me and so many others with so much inspiration, joy and hope. i really enjoyed hearing pat interviewed, i have lots of love and admiration for him. i got chills watching many of the performances where the audience was singing along to songs i know and love - and that's just from seeing it in video! watching that happen during ajj's performance brought me back to the beauty that was their concert that i got to go to over summer. and the clip of the new mexico song performance had so much energy - wow!! this whole thing was full of so much beauty!!!

Thank you for putting this up on KZbin. How can we apply the DIY ethic beyond the music scene? To enable a culture where people can become more self-reliant, buy less shit, and share ideas with others... Open and accessible bicycle collectives, makerspaces, and hackerspaces are a good start, but I'm wondering if anyone reading this comment has additional input or experience.

I'd suggest reading some anarchist texts (there's some really great ones about mutual aid and self reliance) and looking into any anarchist communities/projects around where you live. Even if you don't politically identify with anarchism, it can still be a really great way to meet people passionate about similar things as you and to do a lot of great things for your community.

I make music on my own and record it with old equipment on to cassette tapes and I distribute it for free by leaving tapes in library's and places like that, at the most I make 20 tapes and once they're gone that's it if you didn't get it first and it's not on the internet you'll never hear it.

Hahaha! Yeah, I used to do that too, but here in SF, CA tape players are becoming rare as everybody wants iPods & iPhones & stuff, so I started using KZbin! So far it's just the minimalist versions of my songs, press record & play-at least until I can figure out how to get my recordings from my 4 track to KZbin! I only have a tape recorder & iPhone now for recording & limited access to electricity bcuz I'm homeless, but at least it's a start! State of the art recording studios polish all the character out of songs anyways! RocknRoll!

my first experience with DIY punk was at wrangler studios, november 2017, I saw AJJ, it was an all ages show and that show changed my life, when I was screaming the lyrics as loud as I can and dancing around, there was something I've never felt before, it was a feeling you won't get anywhere else. I talked to sean bonette while the opening acts were on and on that day I met people that I may never forget, that was an experience that you truly won't get anywhere else, I love everyone who helped make this community so widespread, it really helped me change as a person.

Fuckin rough to go back and watch this knowing what we know now about Chris. Plan-it-X's place in the scenes was second to none. Still a dope documentary a few years later, fam. Really glad ya made it. So many of these beautiful people have come through the town I live in now since we've had a solid DIY scene since the 80's punk days and a steady supply of radicals and collage kids. Good dumpstering, cheap second hand stores, lotta punk houses and squats, several venues dedicated to DIY and underground artists, really everything ya could ask for. Gentrification has been robbing us for years but it's still going strong. Just a little closer to the tracks. Which is convenient for a lot of us lol ✊👊✌♥A///E

Nice documentary. But I realy miss Days N Daze, Blackbird Raum, Wingnut Dishwasher Union and The Front Bottoms. Also voxpop of the fans. But all in all it was nice to watch. I just love Riot Folk! Thanks :)

Sadly, no. Chris Clavin really screwed over a lot of people with what he did.

Fantastic! Remember 10 years ago running down to London to catch DIY punk weekender feat. Ghost Mice (who played outdoors). Now working on a dissertation about whether DIY punk ethics/community art workshops can dissolve capitalism. If anyone would like to enter discussion please send a message over.
