Idk I just don’t understand how this is sensitive topic to people who aren’t dicks. Yeah it sucks that a person who represents an underrepresented group of people is a piece of shit but does that representation mean more than the actual victims? Yeah, no. Idk seems like a pretty simple conclusion to draw to.

It makes one wonder if changing really mattered to Ezra Miller, considering his history of hiding behind weak excuses and his identity, especially when you compare him to actors like George Reeves, who quit smoking to embody Superman, or Robert Downey Jr., who transformed from a pariah to a good man. If changing truly held significance for Miller, one might question why he didn't take steps to do so years ago.

Great video, Scott! Unfortunately, not all queer people are good people. And like any minority, we are judged by our critics by our worst examples. As someone who has struggled with mental illness for much of my adult life, I know first hand what havoc it can inflict on one's life. But I also know that it should not be used as an excuse to inflict that havoc on other people. I hope that Ezra is actually taking responsibility for their actions and is getting the help they need.
@kyleellis1825

That's the issue. Ezra has taking 0 accountability for any of these actions. Death threats? Really? What is wrong with people... I'm sorry you have to go through that. I think you're great. :D As an anxious introvert I tend to forget how hateful and hurtful some people are. I had even avoided what ever drama Ezra Miller was involved in. I was actually quite glad you made a video as I was honestly very curious as to what he had done differently from stars like Johnny Depp that got recast while he still had his movie. I figured if you did the video, it wouldn't be so bad as your videos are in a more calm and lighthearted tone. Which indeed, it was. Thank you :D

@@flyingsnowycats Yes, I'm sorry about that. I noticed it after when I reread my comment the day after and felt so horrible and stupid but also... kind of anxiety of editing a comment that people had already liked. After no one had said anything I just figured to leave it alone. ^^; It was just a comment and I figured I should stop stressing out over it. Especially if it was probably going to get buried by other comments and never read again. This was in part that I had started to write the comment before fully watching the video and had only went back and added on/changed things around, once I had finished watching. I didn't know their pronouns before hand. I don't pay attention to celebrities too much to begin with, let alone to know any of them enough to know their pronouns. The other part was that I was quite tired and the little proof reading I did was just focused on my wording making sense and giving the intended message without being too wordy. My brain hadn't clicked that I had used the wrong pronoun. I only realized that the next day when I was more awake. I know it's not an excuse, but this is what happened. And as you can tell by this long explanation, yes, my anxieties really do get to me. ^^; I will try to be more mindful in the future, even if I'm tired.

I was in the same boat hoping that all of the Ezra allegations were grossly exaggerated but that just doesn’t seem to be the case. I think Ezra is a bright and wildly talented individual and it’s sad to see them doing these things. Either way no one deserves to be torn apart for their identity. I hope Ezra gets the help they need.

@@woodchuck003 sorry, I think there's been a miscommunication here. I believe your opinion is based on very little, but you will claim completely unsupported things to try to make your argument sound more reasonable. "the world we live in" is not some excuse for your light transphobia. "the world we live in" is one where trans and non binary people (and any marginalised group) are tired of being demonised and antagonised, having all of their actions being warped into something terrible. This leads to the community hoping that when serious allegations are being levied against one of us, we hope it's the constant over exaggeration of all the miniscule things we do wrong, not that this person has actually done some of the monstrous things they said we would do. I know this probably comes off as very "debate me bro" but trust me, that's the last thing I want to do. I'm just a trans person who is exhausted by the misrepresentation of my community, and who understands the hope that maybe Ezra isn't so bad. After all, it's just hope right? It's hope based on years and years of oppression and this time, we were wrong. Many other times, we've been right

You’re doing your best contending with a complex situation distinguishing between relevant/irrelevant arguments and blameworthy/unblameworthy actions, and them sometimes not simply fitting with each other cleanly to a good people only say and do correct stuff and bad people only say and do bad stuff, and that kind o nuance is good to cultivate among society, especially around seemingly simple evils. I applaud your delicate efforts on this thorny subject to not get lost in easy answers without simply reversing the offender/victim dynamic either. Nuanced understanding is good and hard and thank you for digging through it and presenting it in an accessible form

Scott, this is the first of your videos I've seen, and as a fellow queer person, it warmed my heart to see you tackle this issue in such a sensitive, compassionate manner. Totally agree that Miller needs to be held accountable, but that doesn't change the disappointment fans feel when the few queer and/or trans entertainers we have turn out to be less than decent humans. I hope you're able to get some rest and take care of yourself after researching and exploring such heavy, triggering material. You seem like a wonderful human, and I'm excited to explore your channel. It was an instant subscribe for me. Have a lovely day. ❤

Honeslty, fuck the Non-Binary representation take. They did not come out as non binary until after they were cast in Batman Vs Superman and Justice League and signed a big contract. Barry Allen isn't Non-Binary in the movie its just a convenient coincidence that we have this representation in the first place.

Thank you Scott, I’ve been trying for the longest to articulate the nuance of Ezra Miller’s situation, in these types of spaces (nerd and pop culture spaces) it’s hard to discuss that Ezra has been doing horrible things while still acknowledging they’re treatment (constantly being misgendered both unintentionally but mostly intentionally, as if gender identity is something that’s simply a courtesy and can selectively be respected) it’s really just exposing a lot of underlying transphobia and people are just using Ezra as an excuse to show they’re true feelings towards trans folks (if you claim to respect trans folks but purposefully misgender Ezra, you simply don’t respect trans folks bc that implies you didn’t believe people’s gender identities are genuine if you can turn it on and off) like I hate Caitlyn Jenner, but will still respect her pronouns… bc I respect pronouns, full stop.

@@TreFKennedy it’s not about respecting them, its not about respecting the person, it’s about respecting the concept of pronouns, regardless of the shitty behavior of the person. Same way I won’t misgender a cis person who’s doing fucked up shit, bc it’s not about their gender, it’s about the shit they’ve done. Like fuck Harvey Weinstein or Bill Cosby, so I’ll still say “Yeah HE sucks.” that’s all ill clarify bc I can tell I’ll get several replies like this

Popping in to leave a nice comment (hopefully this one won't be 1000s of words long :D) I'm always really impressed by how well you handle these topics sensitively and admit the kinds of emotional difficulty and ambiguity these kinds of conversations have, while still being really entertaining. As someone who's a bit tied up in that whole 'Academia and pretending I know stuff' frame, it's always been kind of inspirational. Also you kind of kickstarted me off down the 'comic academia' train with the old Superman and the bomb videos. So half my ability to ramble about 'American Monomyths' and 'Page turn effect' definitely gets it start over on this channel

It’s good to hear I’m not alone in being conflicted. I want them to get better and I believe in rehabilitation and second chances, but also they haven’t actually shown that they’re actually working on themselves. They’ve said they were and then went away from the spotlight which could be them working on themselves or it could be them trying to lay low until this passes.
