Practice good scent management. That channel has some big eels. Stick to the negative tides if the surf is bigger than 2-3 ft. I wouldn’t go out there on a tide bigger than about .7 . You want to avoid leaving or arriving next to the channel. The area just before the coral heads rise above the surface has a really mean current, like a river feeding into the channel if you stay to long and it gets waist deep it’s very dangerous in that area. Best to come and go by going about 80 ft Koko Head of the channel. Pick your way along the shoreward border of the shallow coral heads that are behind the channel. After about 70-80 ft there is a clear path to the shallow gravel bank that’s on the Koko Head side of the start channel (the blue hole). The current is much less there and gets stronger closer to the channel. If you go in the morning it’s not uncommon to see small sharks (4ft) leaving the flats through the channel. Not aggressive. Judging how you fish your other channels you seem to understand the importance of not staying to long in regards to a rising tide. When conditions are bad and the current is ripping out through the channel the fishing is way worse than on calm days. So if you turn around your not really missing much. Better safe than sorry.

What are your guys' set up for reef fishing? reel size, pole length and power?
@SaltwatersHawaii4 жыл бұрын
Depends on what fish we’re going for and what bait we’re using. We usually use 7ft pole with a reel size of 4000. But I don’t think it matters too much. Thanks for watching!🤙
