I think the reason that people got upset about Kim wearing Marilyn's dress, was that it set a precedent. What it seemingly means is that IF you have ENOUGH money, both money & "clout" you can go to ANY museum, and "rent" or maybe even (buy)? historic garments for the purpose of wearing them to events. What is the purpose of Museums then? Its flabbergasting that Kim even had the audacity to ASK if she could WEAR the gown that Marilyn Monroe wore to sing Happy Birthday to President Kennedy in 1962!😳

I think them being bigger would allow them to be tailored like the originals were. Which is probably a good thing with the pinstripe one making it run smaller and use stretch to make it fit many body shapes would end up in it being distorted.

For me existing a ""remake"" is not as bad, but someone using the original is, besides it's obvious that Kim is wider than Marilyn (she lost weight but that doesn't change her bones), the poor dress was destroyed. Marylin Monroe may be an icon now but in her day she may have also had a lot of mixed opinions too I think every celebrity does. I’m indifferent towards Kim but her level of fame and people knowing her name probably means she won’t disappear into history either. Not to mention her family’s skill at staying in the press. Like this dress if she had worn a remake, one that was inspired by that followed the met gala theme or just followed the theme in general it wouldn’t have got nearly as much press and social media coverage as wearing the actual dress did.
