Just because someone can't physically do something according to a standard, doesn't mean people don't see the passion in what you're doing. People's spirits are recognized more than just a movement. Keep on killing it 👍

im a dance teacher and plan on showing this to my students. I wish they had even half the drive and passion you do. To have the injuries you do and still say "no excuses" is inspiring. I understand your frustration with you body not allowing you to be as sharp as you want but I could clearly see a difference in your technique from the start to the end of the video. Give yourself some grace. I know that's easier said than done but you should be so proud of yourself and what your body is able to do. You are a miracle and I'm so happy you get to be back out on the field with your friends doing what you love. You more than earned your spot there. I have been and will continue praying for you sweet girl.

You know, I am a 47 year old woman who has had disc disease since my late 20s but the last 5 years it has gotten so much worse where I have had to use a mobility scooter to get around if a lot of walking is involved (like grocery shopping). I can honestly say that I never could imagine that a 17 year old could teach this old girl a thing or two. You have taught me that its okay to rely on help. I've always been an independent person so this has been really hard on me and I always feel like people are staring and judging me when I'm on my scooter because I'm not the typical elderly person. You have taught me that it doesn't matter what people think and that I need to get out there and live life because the life has been moving along without me. I hope soon I can get to the positive attitude that you have. You are such a bright star is this dark world and I'm so proud of you and I know your family is too.

Hi I also have Degenerative disc disease in my spine. Had my first fusion at 24yrs.. then an artificial titanium disc at about 29yrs. Those were both in my neck. Then I had surgery on my lower back L5/S1 in my 30's. That one wasn't successful and I now have almost constant back pain and I have Neuropathy in my feet now as well. I had to buy a wheelchair a few years ago. I was always so conscious of people watching me in the beginning. I'm turning 51 tomorrow. I'm finally starting to not care what people think. It makes such a difference. I have so much respect for Makayla and others who just get on with things. Hope I made sense. Strength to all.

I can relate! I’m 18, have a herniated disc and was recently diagnosed with degenerative disc disease. The pain has recently gotten a lot worse to the point where it hurts to sit, stand or walk for an extended period of time without being in a lot pain. I got an epidural but it hasn’t helped me at all. I’m going on a trip in a couple of days that requires lots of walking and I finally admitted to myself that I need a mobility aid. I was discouraged at first because I’m nervous of what people might think of me considering I’m so young and have an invisible disability, but you’re totally right! It doesn’t matter what people think and honestly I don’t think they really care. We should be able to enjoy our lives without worrying what others think about us. I discovered Makayla recently and she’s helped me out a lot!

To be honest even though you can‘t do every motion anymore, you do it better than most people! Cheerleading isn‘t just about hitting your motions perfectly but it‘s all about the right spirit and you DEFINITELY still have it! This makes everyone forget about you not tumbling and instead doing a motion or you not being able to clap perfectly. Especially for highschool cheerleading, people focus way more on your spirit and probably most of the people in the crowd won‘t even see what‘s wrong about your motion. Keep up that great spirit and you‘ll keep being a great cheerleader 😘

Makayla don’t be hard on yourself - JUST the fact your trying out says so much! If people say mean things IGNORE them - It’s their issue not yours 📣
@Skatejock212 жыл бұрын
thats not realistic though to ignore. We dont usually ignore, we learn to tolerate. Tolerating can be more important to learn. An able bodied person can have mean things said to them too. Some jobs get mean things told to them daily and you dont ignore it. You cant ignore it, you learn to deal with it. You learn to read people and sometimes ignoring people... actually makes the situation worse! When you ignore people, even if its mean. Its not always their issue. Sometimes you dont and wont know what the issue is. Sometimes it has nothing to do with them either but you cant assume you know why they say mean things. We all say mean things, lets be honest about that. In a perfect world you wouldn't see mean people.

Mak!! I am so proud of you! I thought you looked great. Then you talked about how hard it is to raise your arms up and then you showed us your chant and I was blown away! Girl if you are doing this good now, I can’t wait to see how you will blow it away as the season goes on! Give YOURSELF some grace! You are amazing and doing great things. I love how you made great modifications. Excited to see the season!

Your positive attitude and persistence is amazing! To be cheering only 6 months after such a serious injury is incredible. Ignore anyone who can't recognize how amazing you are doing. "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me."

You are a ray of sunshine and your positive and determined spirit is absolutely incredible! It’s okay to have high standards as it’s a motivator it’s also okay to breakdown when you have moments of feeling frustrated, but your attitude is what makes you unique and easy to admire, even though we’ve never met it’s an honour to know you! You do you! It’s the best and only way! Ignore negativity of hurtful comments - it will make you stronger! Well done beautiful girl! 🙌🏼

I don't know how to properly articulate this, but the way you explain the frustration with being unable to do things that used to be second nature really hits close to home. Thank you for sharing the experience, it's somehow comforting to know I'm not alone in feeling that way even though our circumstances are completely different

My daughter and I were at the park today and she is 4, she said why isn’t there anything in this park for wheelchairs? I said that’s something you can create one day, hopefully we are more inclusive to immobility far sooner. My dear friends husbands suffered a complete fracture coming up to a year so we are invested in supporting the family, we love rooting for stars like you who keep doing the impossible = I’m possible! Much love to you!
