I've been hearing a lot lately about the popular Oil and Wax Finishes. I decided to try out some Osmo Oil to see what its like. I'm testing it on a guitar body to see if its a good candidate for a Raw Wood type of finish. My first impressions are very positive. Its an easy to apply finish that has a very nice feel. Time will tell as far as the durability goes but for now I'm liking what I'm seeing.

I've looked EVERYWHERE for a simple, to the point, no BS video on how this stuff works on pine. Thank you for making an informative, interesting video! This really helped me out!

As far as separation and skinning over, you are referring to the 3000 Polyx high solids series Osmo. When fully mixed, it has a light purple hue to it. That can and does separate on the shelf and will skin over after using it unless you add some bloxygen to it. The 1000 series stuff you are using on your body is made for exotic and oily woods and looks like tea and isn’t high solids. It’s very thin stuff.

Did you apply a final topcoat over the wax? I was told by another YTer they use the osmo polyx-oil on top of this wax finish after it fully cures.

I would worry that the wax would become sticky after playing for a while. Especially if its hot and I'm sweating. I clean my basses with lemon oil, wonder if that would remove this finish? What is the plan for the fretboard?

Out of curiosity, what is the weight on that body? I pickup up a pine tele in a shop and it was 13 pounds. I was floored at how heavy it was.

What? $15.99 for 125ml. That's extortion. Here in the UK I just bought 750ml for £31 (about 34 bucks). That's still more than I like to pay, but honestly, you don't need much. As for durability - well they use it on floors over here. Also, the cost when wrapped up in all the costs of making a guitar isn't that big a factor.

Its crazy expensive. I don't know why. Like you said though, it doesn't take all that much so per piece, its probably not that bad.
