Not sure why he didn’t try the 4 cable method at least once. Or put the gate after the overdrive rather than before it for a standard connection. That would have shown me more of what this pedal was truly capable of.

He used it as just another noise gate pedal. But this one is totally more than the average noise gate pedal. Too bad this review does not do a great service in showing what the NS-1X can do.

Idk, but this is the third demo I've seen that never does it, and it's insanely frustrating. 1 - because that's the functionality that I really want to hear tested/demo'd to know how much better if at all this new version is before deciding to order one. 2 - because it makes it feel like all these people seemingly don't know how this works. Hopefully someone like Ola does a demo of it, because he knows how to do the 4 cable method at least with the Fortin Zuul.

If you run the guitar through the send/return before the input/output it should make big difference in it's performance. I run an ISP Decimator 2 G-String that way and it changed everything. It helps it retain the natural guitar tone and helps it to react even faster.

I would like to see a direct A/B comparison with the Sentry, using a bypass looping system, so that buffers don't interfere. Get a friend over and do a blind comparison.

Really suprised you didn't try 4 cable. Especially when u said you were going to run it through a 5150 ii. Disappointing. Thought for sure you'd be all over that. Considering it seems to have taken a page out of the TC Sentry's book (adding damp control, plus the reduction mode seems to be the same as the Sentry's hiss mode) I really wanted to see how it compared. But using the ns1x or the Sentry without running it 4 cable and including the pre-amp isn't even getting close to how these are meant to function. For what it's worth, I just replaced my old NS2 with a Tc Sentry. The NS2 always did the job, but the Sentry is amazing. Had a few troubles at first but once I did a firmware update it was a different pedal. The Sentry in hiss mode, with 4 cable method, is the best gate I've ever played. And I feel like if you have the Sentry (or other gates for that matter) and not utilising the 4 cable method, you're doing it wrong.

Very cool. Good shout on the old ns2 being sought after. There is SOMETHING about that pedal (buffer perhaps?) when you have a large pedal board with a LOUD amp at stage volume that old ns2 almost sounds like a conpressor. It's really subtle but when I take it out of my setup (even with a transparent buffer) I kinda miss the smear effect it has. It's a tiny bit darker.
@zanzabar4ky7
@zanzabar4ky7 11 ай бұрын
The old NS2 can be modded into a gate instead of a suppressor and are a little quicker if you use it as a gate (not the intended use)
@Dan_Ranger
@Dan_Ranger 11 ай бұрын
I used and am still using the NS2 in my rig in X pattern.Still using amps here which is novelty for some 😂. I love the Boss buffers as they boost the signal over long cable runs. The problem people have with it is usuallly user input.

How to use a noise gate or a noise suppressor is depending on the situation where the noise is coming from. Is it a noisy pickup (electromagnetic interference in the room, lights, generators, some machines that generate a electromagnetic feld...), is it the power supply to your effect pedals (not isolated cables), the addition of powerful distortion or fuzz pedals, too much gain, is it the amp, is it the main power supply? I like any kind of help to solve problems. This video is ok, but it was too short for me, because it was only one situation where it was used.
@adamkrauss303
@adamkrauss303 5 ай бұрын
Like others have commented, trying the 4C method would have given you completely different results. As I understand it, plugging directly into NG and then routing through the amps effect loop (if present) placing noisy pedals in the loop would better eliminate noise from the guitar, pedals and amp.

I can understand sponsorship (everyone has to eat and pay bills) but if I want to see an ad, I go directly to the official webpage of the product. I have EHX Silencer , it don't to that popping sound. Unfortunately in 4 cable method , it introduce ground loop ( audible when the switch set to bypass) . I have to put I isolation transformer after the send to prevent that ground loop. I wonder if this pedal will introduce the same issue or not.

I love my Revv G8, never looked back! The Boss has more "bells & whistles ", but I'd rather have a straight up gate that works. I don't seethe need for mute on the same pedal as the gate itself, it should be gating right? I could be wrong, I personally just wouldn't use that feature.

Is the take away this is a 1X adds a gate mode and better noise reduction in the reduction mode? NS-2 was a suppressor not a gate, but you could kind of maybe make it work as one with lots of tone suck.

It's just a really fast and accurate gate. And it's really adjustable. Offers three modes, the basic gate, hiss reduction and an user customizable preset mode. You can adjust the preset through their configurator app to only gate the problem frequencies you encounter and let everything else bybass the gate, for example.

not really sure what the difference between damp and decay is. isn't decay the setting that determines how fast or how long it closes off when you stop playing the guitar ? many kind thanks !
@noquarterpunk
@noquarterpunk 11 ай бұрын
Decay is how fast it closes. Damp is essentially how far it closes, therefore also how quickly it can open again. With the damp not all the way up it can still let some frequencies through, which helps it to sound more natural
