I have the medium and high power versions of this antenna. Shorten the end by 6’-1” to get all of the phone portions tuned better. They ship them long. Set up for CW, but again, just pull some wire through the end insulator, and zip tie it to the rest of the wire, to tune your antenna for voice.

Glad it was helpful! Maybe look for the MP or HP version of this antenna? They are rated for higher power which might be better if this is going to be your home antenna. This the low power version.

Its an EFHW - 132 feet gives you resonance on 80 as a half wave and harmonics to allow 40 20 15 10. The compensation coil (not choke) allows you to also get a decent match on 12 and 17m. Not a bad antenna - although in the US MYANTENNAS are better built and in Europe HYENDFED are better constructed. These also offer far higher power to be used. 73

Thanks for the video Mike. I have this antenna after I accidentally picked it up instead of the medium power. This video made me realize maybe it's time to up the cw learning. Obviously since it's the low power qrp version its appears to be best for lower on the bands. I added a counterpoise I believe 31 feet and seems to improve results. Thanks again Mike. Kevin W8BRY

Mike, as a retired family doctor, I was never trained in ham radio diseases, a shortcoming in our medico training system. You are an acute diagnostician and have discovered a new disorder.....possibly to be named after you. Write a paper and send it to the AMA for publication, possibly in the next April issue of their fine journal. It needs some levity. Also get a YouKits FG-01 or other analyzer with a screen that shows the graph of each band. The old MFJ screen is difficult to read and interpret. Keep up the great videos. Dave K8WPE since 1960.

My first antenna is a HY END end fed antenna. That's the company name. Hy end. From California, on fifteen watts, I worked Hawaii, Virginia, Japan, and even a fast, week, difficult contact with a guy in General Santos City in the Philippines. With 100 watts I worked Slovenia, Japan several times, Australia, New Zealand, New Caledonia, other South Pacific Islands I don't remember the names of, Puerto Rico, New Year, Rhode Island, Florida a few times, Africa twice, oh I can't forget the island of Rora Tonga several times. My point? Even Qrp with a good end fed and you can get great DX even in these crappy conditions. I just finally managed to get a small 3 element yagi up a couple of week ago and now I m having O. k. Luck getting contacts in Europe. Without the beam I think I only had one European contact. Oh, a lot of South America, well several anyhow. With the end fed and the beam . It's easier with he beam. Now that I have a beginners beam I'm finally going to get a linear amplifier. Oh my God they are so much money. Anyhow the end fed. HY END end fed antennas. In the Netherlands I think. You CAN NOT GO WRONG. to top it off my antenna is what call their extra short. It gets 80, 40, 20, 15, and 10. I can tune up on the warc bands also. Oh I've even made 1000 mile contacts on 160. The "shorty" is only 15.5 meters long. It is super high quality as well.

Wow, that's certainly a lot of good contacts. I started off doing qrp portable but soon realized I wanted more power. I honestly just lack the patience. Yes I've heard of Hy End, and I've heard nothing but good things. I assume you've been in the ham game a lot longer than me. I'm still very much learning the sport and am having a lot of fun experimenting with antennas. Stay tuned to the channel. I have "A Lot" of new things on the way that I am going to try. As much as I hate to say it, QRP is going to be a part of it hihi. I may or may not have a qrp radio coming to me on Tuesday. 73 New Ham, and thanks for watching and commenting.

That is going to depend on why it is too high. Without getting too deep into this topic, with this particular type of antenna (80 meter End Fed Half Wave), you should have a relatively good SWR on all the bands. If it is too high, your antenna is most likely either too long, or too short. If it's too long, you can simply cut the wire and raise the resonant frequency. If it's too short, you would have to either solder on more wire, or replace the wire with a longer run.

When you try to end membership at gym - retention counselor slash customized goal oriented strength trainer vibes. You did curls, and it did not go far (20 meter qrp ssb) And you had an emarrasing mishap in bungee cord room (75 meters qrp ssb) After getting a protein shake (efhw) and find the strengths/weaknesses (swr) boom you're a radio rat!

Why in God's name can't you throw a wire in a tree in Michigan? Please tell me you were joking.
@hamradiotube
@hamradiotube 5 жыл бұрын
Only in state/national parks. I wish I was joking. It seems silly and I haven't gotten a really good answer but from what I understand, it has to do with the possibility of spreading disease from one tree to another (which I would imagine birds do) or the fact that you might break a tree branch if you pull on the wire/rope, disrupting the natural course of, well, nature. I don't get it either, but thems the rules.

@hamradiotube
@hamradiotube 4 жыл бұрын
I don't think it's bad. It's got really great rx too. I do wish the wire was thinner. For being a qrp antenna they could have shed some weight off of it.

K8MRD RADIO STUFF Thanks. That seems slightly less alarming. Here in New Jersey the sling shot that I tend to use to throw a weight over a branch is legally classified as a weapon - so I guess we have our own issues.
