Trying Out The New Prinoth Leitwolf X Demo

When a new snowcat arrives, we must test it. This week we have a new Prinoth Leitwolf X Winch to test. I have not driven the new Letiwolf at all, so now was a good opportunity to give the machine a try and see what has been imporved over the old model...

With a Prinoth you just drive back with it in remote mode and when it has tension and you are still moving backwards you put it into winch mode. Doing what you did can be rough on the winch as it pulls out that slack you had in the cable with winch force. The T5 Leitwolf is a night and day difference between that and the T4. I really like them. Only bad thing is that the view with the winch in the way makes it even worse than the PB winches, but the cameras are better at keeping from getting frosted over.

could you do a video on the set up of a machine, such as the machine settings like blade, Hydraulic, tiller etc. interested in the technical side of the machines and what you can change/adjust in the monitor. thanks mike

Hope we get to see more of this new machine! Always a little learning curve jumping into a machine you're not familiar with! Can you do a walk around so we can see the outside?!

I only had it for one night unfortunately. It’s a demo, so doesn’t belong to us. We just get to try it for a certain number of hours then it goes back on the road for other resorts to try.

“ Okay boss, I’ll try it out but I’m not taking off my PB hat”. 😂 Enjoyed the change of scenery and video angles. Did you find a significant difference being in the center of the cat? That was what I found most different for me. Then again the old school cats I operated were significantly different amongst the manufacturers.

I honestly forgot I had that hat on until I went to edit the video 😅 I’ve driven Prinoth plenty so I don’t think about being in the centre at all. I think it’s better for pushing but If I’m getting close to things I’d rather be on the side so I can see better. And I hate sitting in the centre for grooming parks, but I don’t do that much anymore anyway.

Interesting re the dumbo ears. I find I didn’t sit with my thumb over the ‘fast’ control mini stick, but on the other buttons and this kept it closer to the flap buttons. Needed more time to use the fast function more. I found the head of the joystick too fat for my hand and we didn’t like the speed control either. The screen l, noise levels and cameras were really good.

I think the fast toggle is great, and I used the new bison x for building in the pre-season, so I got used to it then. But I guess the joystick is actually made for using the old blade buttons. Which I hate, after being able to do 90% of the blade functions with my wrist on the 600, not pressing buttons every spilt second. The screen is good but probably a little too busy when you just want to quickly spot a number or setting while driving. The touchscreen works really well, much better than the pb screen. The cab is nice and quiet and the cameras and mirrors are miles better than the old machines. I really like the machine in general, but I’d rather have it as a free-cat.

what was the finish like when you mentioned that the cut of the tiller was too deep or it was rotating too fast? i couldnt tell. Just finished my first 2 months as a cat operator and just trying to learn as much as i can. thanks!

You can see a ridge where the arrow was pointing. It’s a fluffy patch where the tiller has dug up too much snow and spat it out too fast for the mats on the back to catch. It looks like a mole has dug a trench just under your pass.
