So I finally managed to make this video! Just a few samples and in the second half I show you through the controls. It definitely is a cool pedal!

I ditched the dUg and got this. IDK i had the dug for 6 weeks and just could not get that thing dialed in. I tried almost every setting under the moon. Sounded great alone, played a couple gigs and was completely lost in the mix along with weekly rehearsals. Have no idea why or what it was, but something just didn't mesh well.

The black metal flake P/J bass you use for the Cliff Burton setting, did you paint it that way? It looks fantastic and I would love to paint a MIK Fender Jazz 24 5-string I have in that same color. Do you know what the Paint code is for that bass ?

Yeah this pedal has so much potential, it's not just Steve Harris in a box. You can get so many sounds out of it

I think that's a misconception that some people have about signature gear - that it will box you in so you sound like the artist. Actually a lot of times signature gear has features requested by the artist that let you dial in more tones rather than locking you into one sound. Thanks BTW for demonstrating the EQ controls. With the dual midrange knobs, the SH1 has more EQ knobs than the Bass Driver DI (which I used to have) allowing more flexible tones. From what I heard in the demo, the center frequencies sound very musical and well suited to the bass guitar.

I am still waiting to get mine - but for me it is not only a Steve Harris pedal, but most of all a BRITISH Bass players style pedal. Lemmy, Geezer, Steve, Phil, Roger ... all the classic British bass tones are there! That's what I was always waiting for. The VT Bass covers more the American SVT Tone, while this one is so British!

Sure, you just need to avoid putting the volume too high on the pedal as it might clip the amp

how low are your strings? u have coinstant clank but without a buzz. mine bass clanks but with a buzz

@@jedrusnowak3317 I try to keep them as low as possible without buzz. The signature flatwound strings usually buzz less. I usually keep the truss rod around at 0.15mm at the seventh fret, and the string height at 2mm for the E string and max 2.25mm for the G string

@@OliverTobyn i have signature strings and they tend to not be that stiff as should that's why IT clanks in bad way. I Heard that regular fender bridge is much worse than custome one and the Badass bridge helps a bit

Hi. Are the galloping parts more easier to do with the Steve Harris pedal? Does the bite boost switch can make the Rounds sound a bit like Flats ? Does Steve Harris uses a chorus pedal ? Thanks

Not really. You still need to master that technique to get it to sound properly. The bite switch makes flats sound more like rounds, but not using it and decreasing the treble might make rounds sound like flats. He does not use s chorus pedal

Hey there! Mh, the Harris strings do make quite a difference if they're old and maybe a bit oxidated, they become really dull. Also I have a really low action which helps in bringing out that clank. Try MarloweDK's Method to bring out some more life out of the strings, I think the video is called new strings in 2 minutes

Hello Oliver I have some questions regarding Steve's rig. Tech 21 claims that his rig has almost never changed and it has always been his Alectron Preamp. HOWEVER, I see tons of stuff claiming that he uses Orange amps, Trace Elliot, and I saw one dude saying he uses ashdown. From what I have seen he used the trace elliot in the 90s and now uses it as a backup to the main preamp. And obviously all the EV Marshall Cabs and DBX compressor haven't seemed to change. Is he now using orange stuff or what? Seeing all of the stuff about orange amps and ashdown and even now tech 21 confuses me about what he actually is using. Could you help me?

Sure, I remember reading on Micheal Kenney's page that he also used Ampeg SVTs at some point. So it seems that now it's mostly Orange and Ampeg based on that, with the Marshall 1960B 4x12 cabs with EV speakers. Apparently he uses the SH1 mostly with British Lion when he can't have his whole rig, but has also used it with Maiden. From what I've learnt, most of this equipment refines the sound. As long as you have a Precision bass with the signature strings, pickups, and the SH1 you're probably 90% there

Thanks! The strings on the Harris P bass were about a month old, whereas the strings on the PJ bass were about a week old.

Yeah the bite button really makes them sound brighter, almost as new if they're flatwounds. Maybe a little too bright on the rounds.

The Steve Harris setting has too much gain. Steve Harris does not use overdrive or distortion. His tone is crystal clean.

Mh it does tend to slightly go towards the overdrive. I also asked Michael Kenney (Steve's bass tech) about this, and he said that probably none of us ever heard the bass sound on its own. In the mix it has a different sound. I happened to be lucky enough to hear a sound check of the bass once, and trust me, it's dirty hahah
