Who says? My cooking is the authentic way to cook as in Puerto Rico. The only way it's different is if you go to a comerio which is kind of like fast food.

I just want to say that Puertorican food in the US is nothing compared to the one in the Island. A big example was the dry mofongo you tasted, if it's dry it means is overcooked. I invited you guys to come here and taste the food in our land, I promise it will be soooo good.

The trick with Puerto Rican food is that not everyone cooks the same so the flavors can vary entirely different depending on how good the person cooks those traditional foods. It's like when visiting PR and people go to the worst restaurants in San Juan while you go out your way to small local towns and the food is amazing. Flan is good but it's very rich in flavor so maybe quesitos would be a better options because it's sweet but not overpowering sweet. Also tembleque which is made of coconut and it's more soothing.

This is awesome! As a Puerto Rican, I'm always very happy when people try our food and read about our culture. Your pronunciations were great! If you ever try pasteles again, try them with ketchup! This is probably the most respectful and educational video of people trying Puerto Rican food, I find too many videos where they think it’s okay to trash or make fun of someone’s cuisine or even criticizing it by implying that it’s copying other Latin American food/cuisine. I was so happy to see you talking a little about the culture and its influences in its cuisine plus the pronunciation is really, really close!! The R’s can be a bit hard to pronounce lol either way amazing video and I’m so happy the algorithm did its good deed and recommended your video!!!!

"Everybody has dumplings," I think about this in terms of empanadas, meat pies, Haitian pate, and Jamaican patties. I really do hope you guys find a nice Haitian spot. and I love that you gave some background, not just on the cuisine but the cultures and flavor pallets that have affected that region. Haiti has such a significant influence from the west African roots, the Spanish occupation, and then the French. but since you're in L.A. you're getting a new side to Haitian food which is the Mexican influence do on the displaced Haitians that have come to L.A. after having been refugees from the past tropical storms years ago. and if you've ever been to Spain you really know the difference between Spanish food and Mexican food. also, that seasoning joke is so clever I have to steal that for when I see someone eating something out of season!!! " how are you gonna eat those strawberries without proper seasoning!?" that's inside joke GOLD

Mofongo is made with fried green plantain. Plantain is a type of banana more starchy. You have to cook it even when they are ripe. I love Mofongo but you have to eat it fresh, as it gets cold it gets brittle. And sadly it does not recover it's texture. Alcapurrias are wonderful just fried when the exterior is so crunchy.
