As someone who has gone to red lobster at least once a year for 25 years in a row (childhood birthday tradition) it’s not what it used to be. They cut every corner possible to maximize shareholder satisfaction since 2014 when they were gobbled up by a private equity firm. The place is currently dead because consumers wisened up and realized for just a little more money they could go to a local seafood place and get FAR better quality. Seriously if you ever want to be depressed just go to your local red lobster for a weekday lunch and look at the clientele it attracts.

@@cheoh I went to red Lobster 9 years ago. The food was so disrespectful, cold, old, disgusting, it looked like prop food. I believe the food just sat somewhere for a very long time. Maybe I got served old food or the waiter didn’t run my food before it turned into stiff prop food. Just imagine the prop food you see at Starbucks that’s what it looked like. The waiter was a complete idiot and smug. I didn’t eat any of the food because you could see and feel the food was cold and old. My mashed potatoes didn’t lose its shape when I put my fork in it. The waiter came to my table and asked “how is everything tasting”. I replied “look at our plates, how do you think it tastes”. I just told the waiter take food off the table and my check, I’ll pay for my drinks because we drank them but I refuse to pay for anything else. I left feeling so disrespected. Never been back since.

Yeah... Like many chains, it can be extremely variable, even within the same one, based on the day of the week/ who they have working. There's this one in a city near us that was actually really good- staff was friendly, food actually tasted fresh and great. Then we went again like at 3pm on a Thursday and it was absolute trash. Orders wrong, tasting old and bad etc.

Let's be clear. Red Lobster used to be in the real estate business (the land the restaurants own generate more value than food sales). Private equity came in, sold the land to themselves, and made Red Lobster start paying rent. That made the restaurants financially unstable. Red Lobster was killed by private equity. Let's just hope that they can come out of bankruptcy intact.

The problem wasnt that no one was going there. The problem was that like 10 years ago a company bought Red Lobster and then did whats called "asset stripping" which is basically selling the real-estate the company's stores or restaurants sit on to a private equity firm. Then the private equity firm charges the restaurants rent every year because the restaurant no longer owns the land it sits on. Red Lobster ended up paying like 200 million a year in rent alone to pay the rent which was like 10 percent of its revenue. Its become a big problem thats sinking alot of companies.
