I was searching for this kind of ideas for my wife, those commercial pads are full with chemicals, and I don't like when she has those big cramps during her periods. I saw that most of the women listen to the bullshit from the magazines that say, don't talk about period with your bf/husband. Women, talk with them, relax. We do understand, and this will actually make it easier for both of us, men will understand better your moods and will try to do their best to help you when you have cramps. I even found out all kind of amazing plants that help: nettle tea for higher iron(mornings only, works as energy boost as well), marigold helps with the pain, burdock juice helps as well, and alkaline water made like this: 1 lemon+1 teaspoon of baking soda+1 liter of water, drink it all during the day, especially drink one glass on empty stomach, this works like miracle for my wife and our friends as well.

The cloth diaper comment at the end just made me realize something about myself. When I was a baby my mom had to put me in cloth diapers because I was highly allergic to the toss away diapers. Now as a grown adult I've always been uncomfortable with my pad or tampon... it's probably the same reason why I couldn't wear diapers! 😅 I've been torturing myself for decades LOL! I REALLY need to try cloth pads!!

The plastic lining in disposable pads trap moisture as well, which is something I think that actually cause more odors. Imagine wearing a plastic bag on your upper body while you exercise. Its kind of the same thing, but, you know, downstairs. So it's not only your menstrual fluids, its also the sweat that gets trapped down there. All of that becomes a gross cocktail of smells that reuseable pads really mitigate.

Yes this is so true and all of that stuff getting trapped down there is what causes those pesty yeast infections too. I have an ultra sensitive V and even the slightest temperature change will give me a yeast😔 unfortunately every cycle it happens to me and I really think its because of those disposables. I can't wait go get my cloth pads though, super excited for a new relief!

Hey Robert I think its great what you and your family are doing. There's a brand of reusable pads called New Moon Pads. The lady makes them by hand all homemade from Canada. Theyre great quality and each pad is said to last 10 years with good handling! You could buy a few and look at the stich patterns for reference.

I bought a few and loved them. My husband who is amazing then said he could make more for me so he sat at the sewing machine in our small apartment making them for me. They are a game changer and I've never looked back. I told a no longer friend about them and she said I was really disgusting using those. I can't understand why people say that but then she used to flush plastic tampon applicators down the toilet. It's no different to when I was a baby and my mom used cloth diapers. I'm in my 40s now and my periods are heavy ABC these handle them great.

If I ever get married, I want my husband to make me reusable pads. That's just too cute! And yeah, I've been told that I'm nasty too by my own mother today. I bought 2 liners from a local brand, just to try out, see if it's comfortable and all, and as soon as she saw them, she said "eww, gross". In my mind, it can't possibly be worse than "normal" pads anyway. It's my own blood, how is this nasty, but band-aids aren't? And they're so cute too!

I completed 3 years with my lunette cup. never ever going back to disposable pads. A woman uses 17000 disposable pads in her lifetime. Girls do your body and mother nature a favor and switch to au naturale products. I love reusable pads too.

@@RandomPerson-vs2yh Hey, firstly, on average a menstrual cup can be worn up to 8-12 hours so you should be good to go for a good portion of the day till you get back home to clean it. Should you require to empty it in a public washroom, carry along a bottle of water and rinse your cup in the toilet. With the Lunette, you also get clean wipes specifically to clean your cup which is perfect for a public washroom scenario. I'm glad you seem interested in this option. I highly recommend the channel Put A Cup In It. You will start to love your periods. All the best!

Maybe 10% use tampons but mostly pads so convincing people to use internal protection is a pain. Which colour lunette cup do you own? :D

S Ramani it’s never too late! My family was pretty strict when it came to menstrual products and what I was allowed to use. As soon as I got the go ahead to use tampons (6 months before using a menstrual cup) I ended up hating them so much! I got so fed up and just did my own research and purchased it without anyone knowing. Started off with the the blue lunette cup as my first cup and now I’ve been sticking to violet color! I really wish there was more education about what menstrual product options are available for young girls everywhere! I’ve been education my younger sister and cousin on what options they have because I know it’s what I would’ve loved to know from the beginning.

I made the switch less than a year ago, and it's been such a great change, I feel so much cleaner and comfortable wearing cloth pads. I feel less sweaty and my skin breaks out less, I just wish my girl friends wouldn't give me strange looks when I talk about it

I have just recently purchased a few reuseable pads as liners for my menstrual cup and I have to say... its absolutely amazing being environmentally cautious in this manner 💖 Also you are right about the less cramping, and shorter periods. This is so true. Less, almost no cramping. Less, almost no odor. True, this is because there are no chemicals on the pads. Your skin breathes too, no sweaty groin area. I use organic detergent, then sun dry it for the added uv sterilization lol

When I was a baby I couldn't use mass produced diapers because of allergies/sensitivities. My mom had to put me in cloth diapers. As an adult I've only used store bought products and always been in pain, itchy and always ended up swelling in my reproductive area! It wasn't until this video that I thought my baby allergies might correlate with my adult period issues. So if your child has sensitivities it might be best for her to go with cloth pads! Save her the torment on her body and wallet. 😆

Try using Ice cold water (put a gallon in your freezer, this is key) and soaking the pads for a few hours, if you have stains just put oxygen peroxide on them after they air dry and it will take it right out. Or you can put the soap on them after the first soak, and then soak the pads again for about 4-6 hours and the stains will rinse right out. I think I've finally perfected my cloth pad ”washing routine” and my enemy/friend is the washing machine 😩😂! I live in Arizona and sometimes the water comes out hot, I always double-check now before I put my pads in. I just like to rinse them in the washer, it helps them dry faster. Hope this helps 🌸❤️☺️

@@sclarisa94 the suction cup doesn’t change when I sit down. It is tricky to get it in and I use both hands to get it out. One to break the suction seal and the other to pull it out. However, I haven’t been able to wear it 100% leak proof which is why I want to start wearing reusable pads or period underwear.

@@sclarisa94 when I’m on long trips, I only bring my cup, I sometimes use a pad too, but usually a liner or just a small piece of toilet paper is enough. A lot of the excess blood isn’t necessarily from the leaks, so when you put it on in the shower, you usually don’t need anything else l.

Hi i am 26. Used disposable pads all my life and then started trying menstrual cup since last night. I thought i would love it but no, the cup starts leaking after 4-5hrs, putting it inside is difficult, taking it out is painful...the suction while taking it out makes me feel like my pelvic organs will fall out. @@theiwatobiicepick7673 yes!! Day 2 of my cycle and if I don't change my big saalt cup every 3 and a half hours it'll be a bloodbath. I also have trouble with leaking when I'm standing up, and if I'm not leaking, I'll feel bubbles down there which is uncomfy. Everytime I change my cup on heavier days it's like a 50/50 chance it'll work, and I've been using the same one for the past 2 years! Also, every morning it's a RACE downstairs to the shower. Changing it on the toilet first thing in the morning isn't even an option because it's just far too messy.

6:30 no you are absolutely right! I have dealt with so much pain for years and just this morning when I noticed the start of my period and put the pad on, cramps suddenly greeted me and that's when I realized that I had to do something! I immediately took the pad off and stayed in my own underwear while I waited to take the bus and go get myself some pads without the chemicals and like I thought, the pain was gone!

Tree Hughers are the best! Toss them in the washer and that’s it!! This is way to much work. Tree hugger pads are amazing they don’t shift when you walk and hold a lot. These seem like way to much work and who want to have pads soaking.

I don't rinse and soak them. At the end of my cycle put them into the washer to soak with oxyclean for an hour. I do a spin cycle and then wash them with towels.

For those of you who want to start using cloth pads and can't bother with the cleaning process, just keep a wet bag or bin in your room/bathroom, fold up the pad and put them in there throughout your cycle without rinsing them or anything. When you've finished your cycle, just toss the pads in the washing machine on a lower heat with oxiclean then let them air dry. You can treat stains if they occur and you're good to go! (Darker colored pads are much better if you're really worried about stains)

I know it been posted a while ago but I wanted to share my experience with the diva cup since you feel/felt a bit reluctant. I never liked tampons and swore by pads but pads were uncomfortable and kind of discusting feeling so I did some research and found the diva cup. I barely wore tampons before so I wasn't very experienced and had a bit of trouble with the cup at first but now I swear by it (and cloth pads of course). Its very comfortable,easy to use once you're used to it, you can wear it on heavy or low day comfortably and you're not worried about toxic shock syndrome. Also you never run out! Just rince it and you're good.

Im 20 years old. Since I've had my first period I've used pads for a year then tampons. After a while of heavy flow that has made me need to wash underwear anyways. I've switched back to pads. But the wings never stick so I still end up often washing underwear no matter what I do. 😢 So I'd figure to try this! I love how they wrap ALL the way around and they feel much more comfortable and I hardly even feel them compared to normal pads which are usually itchy and get all gross against the skin fast. These are SUPER absorbent!

You can get the wet bags at the dollar store! Great choice! The cups are great too! But takes some time to get use to the cups! Once you do u won’t go back!

I have been researching how the cloth pads are made because I would like to make them to support an orphanage in Uganda. Your core contains a highly absorbent material called Zorb and most likely it contains silver which is anti-microbial and anti-bacterial. This would account for the lack of a bad smell. The Zorb can hold an incredible amount of fluid. You might use one pad whereas with disposables you could use about 5 a day.

Hey Vera! I just switched to a cup (Hevea Loop Cup because it's biodegradable natural rubber), and I actually find it way LESS messy, stinky, etc. The first day or two was tricky, it's true, but you get the hang of it fast. Also, you can't even feel it, so comfortable. It does leak a bit if you let it get overfull, so I'm also going to get one cloth pad.

I used to make my own cloth pads as a pre-teen like my mom taught me, but then i switch to disposables because i just got busier. Now i found lots of cloth pads for sale thanks to the internet and im back to cloth pads again! I really love it, it doesn't smell, it doesn't irritate my skin unlike disposables, and yes i have no cramps! I used to have horrible cramps because i have PCOS. Also, cleaning them is actually really easy. I handwash mine with regular detergent, but a regular beauty bar also works. I use vinegar for the stains and smell then air dry. ~

use beauty bar soap like dove or something mild soap to wash .. soak it about 2 hours , very easy to wash.

You should try, I love them! So much more comfy than regular pads (I used to get rashes from them). These are just so much better and I wear them overnight on my heaviest day! They are amazing. I recommend Oko Creations.

What I do with mine, is i soak them in cold water thats mixed with organic goat milk soap and compile them all there for a week then wash each one with that specific soap bar and squeeze till no blood comes out then i place them in the dryer and use the sanitization mode. When should i throw them out and buy new ones?

Great video, thank you ! I am so excited to make the switch. So yo mentioned that they sent you a bar of soap to clean the pads with. I cloth diaper and use the white Zote soap. Could I use that as well for the pads ? What do you think ? Thanks !

I wish I started cloth early in life I tried in my early thirties but didn’t buy the right ones for me just tried some cheap ones to try and they were more rectangular shaped like a store pad but they were awful and slide and I didn’t like it. So watching more and more videos I decos few years later to try again and watched a video of someone’s favorite pad stash and found the best pads ever now I wish I had done this earlier because they are so much more comfortable and barely know there there plus all the cute prints and materials to choose but I like cotton and velvet I ended up having two favorite brands and one just stopped making them 😭 cause I thought I’d get a few more heavier ones because I’m changing and getting heavier so sad I missed her by one week but I still have the second maker but in the look out for new ones to love. I even found the easiest way to clean them with the least effort I just put them on the shower floor let the shower beat on them while I’m in there ring them out put them in a bucket with oxi clean and then when I’m ready to wash them, I just run them through the wash with extra rinse and they come out perfect. Sometimes I run through a rinse first then wash just to make sure the oxi is out but it works so great and I don’t have to scrub and ring the heck out of them.

I just started using non disposables for the same reasons as mentioned: economic and environmental reasons. I also enjoy the comfort level along with the reassurance that I am not exposing my body to harsh chemicals from commercial disposable napkins when I have my cycle. How does it work if your extreamly heavy? I need to wear maxi pad and a tampon. This is also due to having fibroids. I would not feel comfortable going out in public or being at home. I think I'd have to use organic pads and tampons. Thanks for the info

Coconut soap takes the stains out. Try it then live to dry in the sun. Coconut soap is the best

I give a used clothpad/s a rinse program cycle in my machine, that's it. Peg it somewhere in my bathroom, let dry, 'collect' a few of them.. and add them with a few used towels and wash everything in machine at 60 degrees Celsius. I don't use cloths with PUL. I want everything to breathe.

See I’m allergic to any sanitary product so I’ve been really interested in getting these but was so scared because My periods are really heavy and have to change my pad often.. what did you find when you was in public wearing them and changing them in public? Do you just have to bring a bag to pop it in until you’re home? Do they last long between changing?

I've been using cloth pads for a while and most cloth pad companies also sell a wet bag that's for storing your used pads in after changing when you're out and about. You just fold them in on themselves so everything is contained and snap the wings closed around them. They are unlikely to spill that way, but wet bags are that extra security cause they're waterproof, which also makes them super easy to clean if there are any spills. How long they last depend on a lot of factors. A lot of the pads I looked into had comparisons to normal pads and tampons in how much blood they hold. Usually the longer ones meant for overnight are thicker and hold more as is what I've found with disposable pads, but most do hold up to at least what the disposable ones do if not more. The only issue I've had is they slide back a bit on me. I think I need tighter underwear to hold them better in place. The odd thing is I can't find anyone talking about it really so I don't know if it has to do with the way I walk or my body but I'm not giving up on them just yet. Considering getting period underwear to use them with to avoid any spills, or maybe *just* use period underwear as some can hold up to several tampons worth
