The Hearth was originally the big fireplace that was used to Cook the family meals on. It was the place where the family gathered and how they survived. As the kitchen was modernized and fireplaces were taken out of the kitchen the term grew less used but Alex is correct that it was originally called the Hearth of the home

Alex is correct. It is the hearth of the home. Furthermore the statement "Home is where the heart is" was originally "Home is where the hearth is." Google shows that people say both "the kitchen is the heart of the home" and "the kitchen is the hearth of the home." "Heart" makes more sense to me, for two reasons. First, using the word "hearth" is like saying, "the kitchen is the oven of the home" - while it's true that a kitchen may have an oven (or a hearth in old-fashioned houses), that doesn't mean the kitchen is an oven (or a hearth). Second, the word "heart" has a metaphorical meaning that "hearth" does not. "The kitchen is the heart of the home" doesn't just mean the kitchen is at the center, but that family love emanates from there. A cast iron pan is one of the best things for baking cornbread. You just pour the batter into the pan and put it in the oven. It gives a nice crust, and if it's properly seasoned the cornbread won't stick to it.
@ThisWithThem3 жыл бұрын
Yes!!! You have said exactly what I’ve been thinking but couldn’t get into words 😂😂 I had never heard of the older version of the saying. And I totally get it and it’s nice that we’re both correct but as a hearth is an object it doesn’t make as much sense for the saying! We will have to one day make it properly in a cast iron skillet!! Thank you Jeff 🥰

I think the mini pez dispenser is Mr. Fix It from Wreck It Ralph movie. It looks like it. Gonzo is from the muppets. I would love to see the pez collection. My nephew was given the Walmart pickup one once and somehow I ended up with it.

even if it's not let's just say it is 😀 Yay glad you're up for seeing our Pez collection.

Now and Laters are crunchy now chewy later. Now and Laters are cheap candies. I remember getting them for 10 cents for a pack of 5. We would sell them for a quarter. That was a long time ago and many different flavors. We used to get chocolate ones and I still taste the pink bubble gum ones

i live in chattanooga and the way they say it makes me uncomfortable 🤣 but locals only is a gift shop in downtown chattanooga. Also, normally cornbread is eaten with just butter or with pepper jelly. ive never seen someone eat it with bbq sauce or a fruit jelly.
@ThisWithThem3 жыл бұрын
Haha sorry 😂😂 No way! You’ll have to try it because both the bbq and the fruit jelly worked great 😍😍
