We love our pickles in the USA. And by pickles, we generally mean pickled cucumbers even though we will pickle anything from Okra to beets(root) to peaches...that's right I said Peaches. As a child we would often have a multi-family veggie garden with other family members (Aunts, Uncles etc.) and would grow cucumbers like crazy. My Mom and her sisters would "put up" meaning "home canned in mason jars" a multitude of pickles...dill, sweet, bread and butter along with an outlier watermelon rind pickles! (very southern) The green rind (not the skin) would be pickled in a super sweet pickling syrup. They were great as a side to beans 'n cornbread. My mom would put sooo much green food coloring in the pickling liquid that they almost looked radioactive! hahaha...Happy munching Guys.

@@ThisWithThem My Dad would eat them in cottage cheese as a dessert. The pickling liquid had sugar, vinegar, cinnamon, nutmeg and my Mom would stud the whole peaches with cloves. The whole peaches were blanched and peeled before pickling. A crazy food tradition I agree, but it works on some level I suppose. My parents and their siblings were all "depression" era children so their approaches to conservation and making use of what's available were "zen" level to say the least. PS, I enjoy your sibling banter.

Hi Kate and Alex, I loved Part 2 of this great box. I love Bread and Butter pickles. They are very easy to make. My aunt has been making her own for years. Now, over this pandemic I started making my own. I found a quick easy recipe on KZbin. If you type quick bread and butter pickles a guy named Chef John from all recipes is the recipe I use. I hope you all have a great week.

Mount Olive dill and sweet relish is what I use here in Mississippi. On top of they've got a great price they are the best flavor. And actually as a kid growing up , my mom would buy the big jar of dill pickles and we'd run in and grab one and go outside and go play and eat it. No matter how hot it was outside back then, it now explains why we never cramped. Cuz I guess you know dill pickle juice is good for cramps when you're super hot outside!! And my nosy self wants to know what are y'all doing to keep in shape so you don't end up like a bunch of us that are close to being a beach ball lol. I'm working on it

You can get bread and butter pickles in slices and they are great on hamburgers, sandwiches, or just to eat. My mom used to make them with onions and peppers in them, so good. There is a pickle just called a sweet pickle, and they are really sweet, not my favorite. When you get through eating those bread and butter pickles, slice up some cucumbers and put them in the jar and leave them for a few weeks in the fridge and you will have more pickles!

Alex couldn't even remember what they were called, and thought they were the same as cucumbers (they ARE pickled cucumbers, but not the same). Here's an idea for Kate. I can't stand beer and have never had a glass, can, nor bottle of beer in my life. But, I don't mind Lambic when fruity (like Lambic Framboise from Belgium.) Technically it's a beer, but it's not like most beers, ales, ports, ipas, stouts, etc. It's not made with brewer's yeast and doesn't have hops. Lambics are more like hard cider than beer the way it tastes. I'm gonna try a new fruity "sour" beer from a local brewery tonight (weather permitting, it's been storming like mad,) so we'll see if I can tolerate it. So, perhaps Kate could try fruity sours or fruity lambics or even hard ciders and see if she likes them. ~Be Blessed

Welcome to NC!! This is where I'm from! We have lots of stuff, but the Carolina Reaper is the hottest pepper in the world. Its Raleigh. Pronounced (Rah-Lee). Mt. Olive Pickles are something we eat with everything. My kids literally eat the dill version as a snack. We don't do sweet pickles. John boy and Billy sauce is best on chicken tenders. If you cook with it, don't add water because it will boil out in your oven. The original sauce is a little spicy but children can eat it no problem.

My son will sit and eat just pickles until the jar is empty! He has done this since he was 2yrs old! Oh and 'ock-ruh' made me laugh. I've heard lots of different ways of pronouncing things. This was new!

You can cut up one of those pickles in the find little pieces and put them in deviled eggs or macaroni or potato salad. I prefer the bread and butter pickles myself. Love the video

Love the bread and butter pickles. They are better if home canned than factory made. I love doing them coin slices for the purpose of burgers. Do like the spears also.

I love pickled okra! It’s so yummy! And honestly, I love the flamin hot flavor! I think the seasonings are so yummy and not really hot at all! Lol I was literally eating those same flamin hot lays while watching the video! And spritzed with a bit of lemon juice.

🐶 Another batch of wonderful snacks and drinks !! My mom used to make bread and butter pickles 🥒 they were delicious. I am not sure why she quit making them. I would love the Barbecue chips ( crisps ) ! I am definitely not a beer drinker. Thanks for sharing Bob with us !! So cute that he loves his Lambchop toy. Blessings from California ! 🦒

Beer cheese actually does have beer and is traditionally also served in a bar. Traditionally, beer cheese is served cold and consists of sharp cheddar cheese (or processed cheese with cheddar flavor), beer, garlic, and pepper, preferably cayenne. And you're actually missing quite a lot with not having American chili con carne it's actually different by location but not really confused with boring and actually has flavor. And you have had okra dried and pickled but normally it is boiled and very culturally relevant in some areas. Oh and trader Joe's peach salsa that's good!!!

I love kosher dill pickle spears. You should try the Ranch powder dip packet in container of pickles leave it for 24 hours before eating a spear. They say it’s so good. Honestly I could barely taste the ranch flavor but maybe with a Bread and Butter pickle vs. Kosher dill pickle you will be able to taste the Ranch.

@@ThisWithThem You guys have to make it to the east coast and have some truly NC BBQ. Not sure how you will like it as it is vinegar based, but we love it!! Plus, there is so much seafood to be had here! Lots of history with Tryon's Palace (home of the first governor of NC - Governor Tryon). They even have fun reenactments there. Oooh! And the Muscadine festival in Keenansville in the fall! All the local muscadine wineries come out for tastings! Sweetest wine you could ever imagine. Lol

Raw okra is prickly on the outside and on the inside it's kind of slimy. That is probably why the pickled okra texture turned you off. Southerners love to fry it. I guess that's not really a surprise lol.
