It wasn’t that we were fugly teens in the 90s and early 2000s…we were simply victims of trauma inducing, trash products 😂😂

I was in 6th grade in 1999. Very thick, coarse curly hair. Was super excited to get this as a Christmas gift. I cried for hours because it only made my hair so frizzy and knotted up. It was one of the biggest let downs.

I had the old Remington "Wet 2 Straight"... I remember hearing it sizzle on my wet hair, seeing steam(smoke?) and thinking, "Is this damaging my hair? ...Nahhh, they couldn't sell it if it did that." and then just kept frying.

Man! The steam burned ya! The claw teeth pulled your hair out, it hurt & looked awful! I am so grateful for our ceramic plated flat irons now! God bless the innovation! Ahaha

This was one of the first hair straighteners I ever owned, lol. My mom got it for me on my 15th birthday. While it made my frizzy hair that I didn't know how to style at all look better ... It still wasn't good. There was no way to straighten the waves in the back properly haha.

A good hair straightening tool just didn’t exist when I was in middle school
@LakeGael10 ай бұрын
I'm forever thankful, as a licensed cosmetologist, that I was too poor and intermittently homeless as a teenager to afford hair straightening tools. My hair has always been ~slightly wavy~ at best, and every attempt I made in my early 20s to straighten it always resulted in my already-fine-and-volumeless hair AS CLOSE TO MY SCALP as possible, but just in the front. The back was still ~slightly wavy~.

I still have mine and it still operates in a similar way. Believe me, trying to straighten my long hair with this was worse than anything. It would take me more than an hour and my hair was puffy and frizzy. Who invented this? I need all my 90's straightening hair time back!
@jackiebrown7859 Жыл бұрын
I had that awful thing. Looking back, I think how dumb it was. Humidity makes my hair Frizzier, so its counter productive😆
@Heather-n7y Жыл бұрын
I never had/understood a steam straightener because water makes my hair curl, so how was this supposed to make it straight? I sizzled and fried my hair the waterless, old fashioned way.
@jackytumbles Жыл бұрын
I was also thinking how on earth is water going to help with straightening? That's counterproductive.

This was my first straightner..that's what we called it 😂 flat iron wasn't a thing in our world yet. It was too big and bulky to get close enough to your roots, so i would have fluffy roots and somewhat straight ends. Then, in my early bar hopping days, I got a mini curling iron that ran on propane that i would carry around in my purse. That thing made me super popular in the bar bathrooms 😂 and the sound it made when you fired that thing up 😬
