the thing is, you don't pretend you don't care. You have all the uncomfortable conversations and be angry with each other and decide what is good for everyone involved. sometimes it's not possible to stay friends, but sometimes it is. it depends on what the relationship was all about (if it was a lot about the friendship part of it, it's possible), and how and for what reasons you broke up. if everything about the breakup and the faults in the relationship have been talked through. I've done that and it wasn't easy, took a lot of work and came with bitterness in the beginning, but in the end it was worth it. today we are good friends and each in happy relationships, without being jealous or longing for each other. I'm kinda fed up with this belief it's not possible to stay friends, just because people don't do it right. It's not about flipping a switch. It's about being brutally honest and doing the work. Just like being in a relationship. Just that this time it's about a good breakup.
